Dragonball Xenoverse 2

Time Breakers were the villains in the last story. And Bardock is basically the lapdog of the Time Breaker Towa. I think the story is he got plucked from time at the moment of Planet Vegeta's destruction, and got magically enhanced and put under mind control.

He was first introduced in Dragon Ball Online. Then he was used in Dragon Ball Heroes. And since Xenoverse takes most of its ideas and plot from both of those games, now he's showing up in Xenoverse 2. There's also a Time Breaker Vegeta, so rumors are he might show up as well. Unless they save him for Xenoverse 3.

Ah okay. I don't recall them being referred to as Time Breakers in Xenoverse, and I didn't know much about all that other stuff.

I actually can't recall if they were ever referred to as Time Breakers in Xenoverse, but Mira and Towa originated in Dragon Ball Online, and the whole traveling through time plot and gathering the energy from powerful warriors was taken from the game as well. Towa is actually the sister of the Demon King Dabura and her goal is to break the seal on the Demon Realm.

I literally knew none of this. This is all from DB Online? Wasn't that only out in like Korea or China?

The game never really took off. It was developed for a long time, even playable at some point, but cancelled in 2013. But I guess they didn't want the assets to go to waste, and used them for a new DBZ project, which eventually turned into Xenoverse.

Wooo! And a new Trailer is out.

Savor As Much As Possible In Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2’s Open Beta. October 13, 2016 . 12:00pm

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2’s three day open beta isn’t enough time to see all of the things added or improved in the game,
but you can still see and enjoy some very obvious changes.

16 comments Read >

Dragon Ball Xenoverse is a huge game. You can go 20 hours and barely scratch the surface of it. By all indications, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is an even bigger game. There will be race-specific missions, everybody gets transformations, over 80 characters from the Dragon Ball series will appear in some capacity, and there will be extra hubs set in areas like the Namekian Village. It’s massive. In fact, it’s so big that you probably won’t get to see many, or perhaps even any, of these things in the PlayStation 4’s Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 open beta between October 14-17, 2016. Rushing through and trying to will only make what should be a fun experience. Instead, you should take this opportunity in stride and enjoy what you can.

That isn’t to say you won’t get to see some of the things that are new to Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. Some of the changes are obvious and immediately available. Conton City is the primary hub, and it’s substantially larger than Dragon Ball Xenoverse’s Toki Toki City. I don’t think the previous hub can even hold a candle to Conton City. It’s a more fully realized and active city. I saw plenty of NPCs during the closed beta, as well as a handful of other players. While important locations are a bit more spread out, I didn’t feel like too much space was wasted in the process. I always felt Toki Toki City was nice, but a little generic and more of a place to do your business and go. Conton City struck me as more of a place to linger, meet with friends, and explore.

Of course, this means faster means of exploring such a large area are a necessity. Unfortunately, you aren’t immediately able to begin flying around. Instead, vehicles are going to be your Conton City BFF. One of the first things the Supreme Kai of Time will do is teach you how to ride around the city. Every Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 open beta player will have access to Vehicle Capsule #315. Press the square button to hop on, use the analog stick to steer, press L2 to accelerate, and hold R2 to bring up the map while you’re riding along. It’s a godsend, I assure you. That map is going to be super helpful, because there’s a very good chance the Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 hubs will be hopping. 300 people can be in the hub at the time, and you don’t want to get lost in the crowd.

Once you start taking some Parallel Quests and enjoying missions in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, you’ll see some of the in-battle tweaks that have come with this version of the game. You start small, of course, with a one star PQ that has Elder Kai teaching you the basics of exploring and batting when on a mission. During this portion, only Gohan (Kid), Yamcha, Raditz, Turles, Jaco, Nappa, Tien, Piccolo, Goku, Goku (GT), Krillin, Saibaman, Vegeta, and Captain Ginyu will be available. (Naturally, you’ll have many more options in the full game. It’s also here that you’ll see some of the biggest and most important changes to the game – the ones that make the battles more realistic and enjoyable.

It feels like Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2’s open beta does a good job of showing how little changes can really add up. I mean, I noticed the differences in the first tutorial mission and appreciated them more and more as I went through the quests that were available. Flying is a big deal. Since I play ranged characters, I spend almost all of my time on quests in the air when I can. I found it easy to ascend and descend, as well as suddenly speed up or press square and cross for a homing dash that would get me right in an enemy’s face. And, as someone who chose a Majin female for my current avatar and understood the value of stamina, I loved being able to press up and either square or triangle at just the right time during a fight to break my opponent’s stamina. Especially pressing up and triangle for the stamina break that would send an enemy crashing to the ground.

That is so much fun, all because Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2’s environment is more interactive. You can send someone careening into objects, ground, or water. I found the underwater battles the most fun, since you could actually keep going and battling under the sea, perhaps even finding a new place to fight it out. Though, seeing someone you hit smash through stones or some other environmental feature really made it seem like your attacks did pack a punch.

When people begin their lives as a Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Time Patroller, you’re going to enter a huge, open world with tons of missions and battles. Think of the open beta as a sample. We don’t know how busy it will be once it kicks off tomorrow, and three days isn’t a lot of time to really take in all that a game like this has to offer. But, you can test out some of the basics. If you’re able to spare even three hours to explore, you’ll be able to see and do enough to determine if the full game is something you could see yourself spending 10, 50, or maybe even 100 hours playing.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 will come to North American PlayStation 4s and Xbox Ones on October 25, 2016. It will come to European PlayStation 4s and Xbox Ones and PCs worldwide on October 28, 2016. It will come to PlayStation 4s in Japan on November 2, 2016.

So, has anyone tried the open beta? I played it most of the day, and I'm definitely gonna pick a Namekian for the first time going though the story. I just like how the Namekian feels in combat, and that giant form is just amazing. The damage you can dish out is insane. I always rank #1 during the Extreme mission where you have to take down Giant Ape Vegeta with 6 players.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2’s Instructors Can Be Your Best Friends. October 26, 2016 . 12:00pm

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2’s Instructors make the experience feel more immersive this time around.

12 comments Read >

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is a huge game. There are tons of quests available, be they storyline or parallel, and there are other players you can challenge. You need to be at your best, not only to prove something, but to make some of the more tedious encounters less taxing. (I’m looking at you, Power x10 x2? Great Ape Transformation!) Fortunately, the Instructors are as helpful now as they were in Dragon Ball Xenoverse. In fact, I felt like the relationship with them actually mattered, in a way it didn’t before.

You’re able to begin training under familiar Dragon Ball series characters almost immediately in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. While Krillin is set up somewhat as the initial, tutorial instructor, you don’t have to begin with him. There are a number of people ready to start helping you as soon as possible, and the game let me start working with characters like Piccolo and Yamcha without checking in with Krillin first.

After your first Parallel Quest tutorial, you’ll start seeing these masters around the city. I ended up going with Piccolo as my first teacher, since I was going to rely on a human female with Ki blast attacks, instead. Since choosing a mentor to show you special moves is about finding one who fits with your playstyle, instead of favoritism, it’s okay to skip over some characters and rely on others. Piccolo gave me Evil Explosion right away, Yamcha taught me Fake Death, Tien offered up Dodon Ray, and Krillin offered Rise to Action. Since you won’t unlock the next round of instructors until after defeating Frieza’s lackeys, Dodoria and Zarbon, during the story, it’s important to make the most of these first few heroes, even though you will need to reach various ranks and training levels to reach them.

Even though you are a bit limited in scope with Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2’s initial Masters, some of their first few skills are really quite great. Krillin’s Rise to Action will let you exchange Ki for Stamina, which can be quite a big help. Even though Krillin isn’t my favorite, his Destructo-Disc is a pretty amazing homing Ki skill that is a guaranteed hit. Tien’s skills are pretty all purpose too, as Dodon Ray and Volleyball Fist can work well with any movesets. The only ability that didn’t seem to be much help was Yamcha’s Fake Death. But then, that was really only because the camera can be finicky.

I think my favorite part of the masters this time around is how the Instructor element makes it feel like you really matter to these people. The friendship gauge isn’t anything new. It was present in Dragon Ball Xenoverse. But it seems like this time, my ally was more involved. Piccolo showed up during Parallel Quests. He made time to talk to me. It was like I was working with someone who thought I mattered. It was a nice little reward. Certainly, there are other perks from building up friendship with an Instructor. There are moves and occasional gifts. You can even get an icon to show you’re BFFs. Hearing Piccolo’s criticisms and praises during quests made it feel like this relationship was real. It added a level of authenticity that I appreciated.

Plus, it adds more opportunities to interact with characters in a way where they acknowledge and recognize you. In the story quests, where you’re fixing history, these characters won’t recognize you. They don’t really refer to you by name or treat you as someone special. It’s like you’re there, but not. The Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 master system feels even more immersive this time around.

You’re going to spend a lot of time with Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 if you get this game, because anyone who opts in is doing so because they’re familiar with the series. While you could go ahead and focus on story and parallel quests, you really should try to interact with as many Instructors as possible. Even if you never use the moves you’re earning from these lessons, you’re getting a chance to feel like you’re actually a part of these virtual people’s lives. It’s quite a feeling.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is now available on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in North America and will arrive in Europe on October 28, 2016. It will come to PCs worldwide on October 27, 2016. It will come to Japanese PlayStation 4s on November 2, 2016.
