Houdini (it was a joke).
There's only one Houdini!

I'm also posting this in The Weeknd thread, but he was at Kendrick's popup concert spotted with Mark Phillips!

I'm surprised MJ's label hasn't used this to create a new album.

I'm honestly a little surprised that more people, especially other artists, weren't outraged about this. For the past few years AI has been taking everything over and when artists' voices were being used it seemed it they were all collectively against this inevitable future.

But Drake goes ahead and just full on employs it for a track but it doesn't really garner that much criticism. I mean yeah the Tupac estate comes after him which is to be expected but there wasn't a bigger outrage from the music industry itself.

I won’t wade into the Drake vs Kendrick feud simply because I cannot rip Drake since he is a UK basketball fan.

But holy cow, I’ve been listening to Kendrick’s unreleased song Abortion Money on repeat recently, and if he hadn’t already, he may have unseated Chuck D as my all time greatest based on that powerful song alone. (And if anyone is curious, yes. Kurtis Blow is top 5 all time.)

That's gotta inspire a few sequels.

While I do think the whole diss track thing feels very 'elementary school' I must say Drake comes off as really pathetic in all of this.

my "diss track thing" do you mean just the concept of a rap beef in general?

Yeah I mean, I don't listen that much to hip hop, it's more a genre/world I dip my toe in here and there. (Out of the 150 albums from 2024 I have listened to maybe 5 are hip hop) But yeah the whole beefing thing does seem a bit immature to me. I get that it's not very uncommon but I feel like there's more interesting things to write songs about, just for my own personal enjoyment.

There's already a second lawsuit

Hmm, maybe hip hop just isn't for you, then. You did say you don't listen to it much. But diss tracks are part of the culture, I'd say. But I'll admit that I don't know too much about it either.

Diss tracks are nothing new to any genre of music. Typically rap beef is used as a pejorative mainly because of the violence became of Pac and Biggie and ever reliable cultural stereotypes.
