    Happy Thanksgiving, Guest!

Sci-Fi Dune

I really wish I got into the IMAX stuff as much as others have. I've only seen one movie in that format my whole life and that was Dunkirk.

Well a lot of the movies they show in IMAX don't show it in the 1.43 : 1 aspect ratio that fills up the entire screen. It's only on rare occasions they do it like Dunkirk and Dune because it was shot on IMAX.

ah well at least i picked the right one haha. For the record, I thought it looked absolutely incredible and the sound was insane. I think that movie was meant for that format.

...the shot of (I'm guessing) Paul walking off into the horizon has such a Messiah/Children Of Dune vibe.

Wonder if Denis will play around with more visions depicting quick glimpses of Book 2 or 3 happenings.

Hopefully at least visions of Dune Messiah

Hoping WB is smart and let Denis give us Messiah in 5-7 years, become a producer and then make Children and at least God Emperor is by that point Denis is tired of visiting the desert.

I would like Dune Messiah in like 3 years, lol. I think after Dune Messiah is a good time to hand it off. It works as a trilogy in this case, and Children of Dune starts an entirely new chapter. What I am curious about is do they split CoD into 2 or 3 movies, or do a GoT/HotD level show instead? Should the franchise warrant continuing, obviously. The show format because CoD is so dense may almost be preferable. But that would sacrifice grandeur

my first exposure to dune was the 84 david lynch film they'd used to play on syndicated tv where they'd divide it into 2 nights.

it was such a weird, interesting movie but i didn't have a strong liking to it.

but then i read the book last year and then watched villeneuve's dune part one afterward.
it. was. great.

this trailer, like the villeneuve's first film, really captures the feel and tone of the novel for me.
that world building all up in your face.

I once thought Children should be 8-10 episodes, God maybe 6-8 episodes.

Then maybe go beyond, Heretics/Chapterhouse are so good - yet the next chapter would need some tweaking to end it all.

Have you read beyond the first novel? They're all great to down-right masterpieces.

God Emperor might be my top 3 book of all time.

Yeah, I am not sure how to handle the whole Dune 7 that Frank didn't get to write thing. Brian's version of that outline I don't really count lol.

not yet.

i only read the first one because my local library was selling a used copy of it, so i snatched that one up.

is there up to 5 novels in the series that frank herbert himself wrote?

Looks very good... Might actually drag my lazy arse to a theatre to watch this!

Yeah... think of them as little sagas / huge time jumps occur;

Frank Herbert
Dune
Dune - Messiah

Children Of Dune
God Emperor Of Dune

Heretics Of Dune
Chapterhouse - Dune

...he passed away and Brian, his son, wrote two books based on (with changes) Frank's Book 7 Floppy Disk;

Brian Herbert
Hunters Of Dune
Sandworms Of Dune

...there are also a 'main canon' prequel trilogy done by Brian and a co-writer, again sort of based on Frank's notes;

Brian Herbert & Kevin J. Anderson
Dune - The Butlerian Jihad
Dune - The Machine Crusade
Dune - The Battle Of Corrin

I won't bother beyond there... everything I heard is not good or unnecessary.

I've only have read Frank's original 6 and intend to read the other 5 at some point.

I do read the comics from Boom!, they're not bad and engaging.

Its been a while, but I liked Paul of Dune and Winds of Dune, and am sad that the promised Irulan and Leto of Dune books are on hold.

Trailer was great. Can't wait to see it.
