Sci-Fi Dune

That's the worst part, friends. They didnt say when in 2024 its being moved to. Which means theres a possibility it gets pushed a WHOLE YEAR to land back in awards season.

This seems like a mistake. Dune is going to miss that great IMAX run, momentum, and awards season.

I feel a little less hopeful about Dune Messiah. We'll see, hope it can persevere.
I don't know, honestly. So much of what they are banking on is Timmy and Zendaya's star power with a different demo then those they already have coming in. I can see why they want them out there promoting. That said, you might very well be right.

a) Good for The Marvels, as long as it doesn't move.
Has it been confirmed if post production is finished for The Marvels? I'm inclined to believe that it is since it was supposed to be released last month but ever-reliable Wikipedia says that it's still in post. It's so up in the air right now that I could see it going either way.

They may not have had a choice if there was still a lot of ADR work to be done. I wouldn't despair too much about its award season prospects. If 2024 looks barren because of the strikes, it can still be a major awards contender. After all, Everything Everywhere All At Once was released in April and that went on to win Best Picture.

If anything, this is fantastic news for Universal since this clears the way for Oppenheimer to be the big contender at the Oscars. At the very least it's now lined up to sweep the technical categories.

Well, a four month delay is a bummer but it's not that much. True it's going to lose a bit on the momentum (ideally is should have been out a year after the first film) but the hype train should get back on track near release.

Also we're talking about a month with (as of now) far less competition than in November this year. I actually think it might help the movie that there won't be that many tentpole films until then and the crowd could yearn for something.

I'm also optimistic about a new IMAX deal. They saw how big Oppenheimer was and they know Dune's potential. It might not be six weeks but if it does well it could get extended. We'll see.

Honestly the biggest loss is the awards season. But let's be real. If the strike lasts til the end of the year how would they push for a successful campaign without the actors anyway? March might not be the best date but if the film is good it could still go to the Oscars. Oppenheimer is already said to be the biggest candidate and it was out in the summer.

By the way I'm saying all this as someone who had Dune by far his most anticipated project for this year.

Given the state of WB's movie slate, I think they will gladly go with a third if this is a mild success.

Will they even have the opportunity to get the third film or will that become a Sony film due to Legendary's new deal?

Might not even be an option for them.

Unless they are very stupid, I'm pretty sure they have options on sequels. Like they did with GvK.
