E3 2009

So...game of the show? Biggest disappointment? Biggest surprise?

So...game of the show? Biggest disappointment? Biggest surprise?

Anybody?

Game of the show was easily Uncharted 2 for me. I have a feeling this game may....just may top MGS4 as my all time favorite game. I mean Uncharted was already right behind MGS4, and this looks improved over Uncharted in every way.

Biggest surprise...FFXIV. Only because it was a genuine surprise. No one guessed it'd be unveiled at E3, let alone for another half a decade lol. I'd give it to MG: Rising, but to tell the truth many of us thought a multiplat MG was entirely possible. Plus Kojima's website hinted a new MG was being unveiled soon.

Biggest dissapointment? I guess that all 3 shows focused on motion controls so much. It felt like watching a scene from a movie 3x, just changing the angle you watched it from.

Game of the show would have to be Modern Warfare 2 for me.

Disappointment: I just hate how games that were announced years ago aren't coming out till 2010

Suprise: Project Natal

Biggest surprise was Left 4 Dead 2 for me.

Game of the show was Alan Wake, since I'd forgotten it existed before I saw the demo video.

Biggest disappointment? I didn't really have much in the way of expectations for anything, so I was disappointment-free. But I guess if I had to pick something, I'd say Microsoft treating Metal Gear Solid: Rising like some colossal achievement... only to find Kojima basically saying that Peace Walker is the real next MGS game and it'll be PS3-exclusive. But I'm not even a fan of MGS, so that didn't bug me too much; it was mostly the fact that MS was practically jumping for joy over what turned out to be Kojima's table scraps.

Game Of The Show for me was probably Uncharted 2

Biggest Surprise I guess was Alan Wake being there, I figured it was vaporware

Biggest Disappointment: The big lead up to FFXIV and then it turned it out to be online

Hah, I hadn't thought of it like that

Oh yeah, that's right. I missed that in Corp's post, lol. PW is a PSP game

My biggest surprise was probably Splinter Cell Conviction. It wasn't a surprise in the truest sense of the word as I knew it was going to be there. But with the fact that I wasn't too enthused with Double Agent and the direction they were going with this one and with the rocky development cycle I really wasn't expecting much. I was really blown away with what they showed, though.

Ignoring all the motion control stuff, my biggest disappointment was definately Alan Wake. I was really digging the psychological horror vibe I was getting from it since it was first announced. And I was totally into the demo...right up until the guy pulled out a shotgun and started blasting everything in sight. I was under the assumption that this was going to be a sort of adventure game similar to Heavy Rain, but it appears like it's going to have more in common with the most recent Resident Evil games. It will probably be an alright game, but I think I'll pass on it.

Game of the show for me would have to be again Splinter Cell Conviction. I can't express just how impressed I am with how this game is turning out. I'm going to be all over this title later in the year.

I said it earlier but I think it bears repeating: Conviction looks like the result of a night of sweet, sweet passion between the earlier Splinter Cell games and Jack Bauer. :D
Peace walker is a psp game, not ps3

Oh yeah, that's right. I missed that in Corp's post, lol. PW is a PSP game
I knew that and misspoke. Because I totally saw the stuff for Peace Walker and was not basing my post on hearsay. I would never do that.

:o

someone needs to tell Hideo Kojima and his team that NOBODY likes Raiden....EVER....they didn't learn from MGS 2 where people hated him then, and then cyber Ninja'd him up for MGS 4 and still no one cared

I actually liked him in both games. Also, in Japan, he's actually the more popular character in the series

I agree that nobody cares about Raiden but I'd still rather have a state of the art fun new Metal Gear game for my 360 then have a ps1 looking game for my psp

I care. I loved Raiden in Guns of the Patriots...

...and Sons of Liberty.:o

PO looked quite good on the PSP, so I'm assuming that PW will look much better than the PS1 graphics.

I think the meterosexual look in Japan is considered attractive so yeah that's part of it. From what I've read and heard it's not just young girls/women, most male gamers prefer him too.

I wasn't drawing any distinctions. Look at the character designs coming out of Japan for virtually anything and it's pretty obvious that everyone there loves androgynous males and doe-eyed, innocent-looking females. It completely boggles my mind because I can't f***ing stand that look.

Kojima's has been a loyal Sony guy for years. My guess about all the "MGS:PW is the TRUE MGS sequel" stuff is that Konami told him he needed to make a multiplat MGS game and Kojima wasn't enthused about it.

That's not saying he'll do a bad job, I'm sure he'll give it his all, I just get this vibe Konami told him to design for a system he half bashed awhile back. On top of that they probably told him to up the action for the game a bit (lightning bolt action...lol) for the 360 crowd, and he might not have been so thrilled about that either.

He seemed pretty high on PW despite it being a PSP title rather than a huge next gen console title. He even said he put the MGS4 team on it and is heavily involved and writing the script. PW was probably a bone tossed his way saying he could make the game how he wanted.

At least that's my guess.

Yeah, I don't particularly understand it either. It's just one of those weird culture things.

Maybe not. That style has gotten pretty huge over here in the US, too.

Yeah, he looked sort of meh-ish about MGS:R. The Xbox guys were patting him on the back and he was just like, "Yeah, go me, yawn." I didn't see the Sony conference, but presumably he was more enthusiastic there?

If I remember right Raiden was designed to please the ladies. Something about designing him to be attractive to girls since he felt they always got shafted (no pun intended....perverts) when it came to main characters appealing to them.

I had no problem with Raiden's looks....ok maybe a little, small, tiny, insignificant problem, but nothing that made me dislike him. My problem with Raiden was his attitude. For a trained killer he did ***** and whine a lot. By the end of the game tho I felt he had grown into a decent character. However in MGS4 he was confident and badass, almost a completely different character.
