E3 2009

Do we really need so many E3 threads

One dedicated to the general show and the 3rd party stuff and one for each conference. Not seeing a problem with that. It's not as if much traffic is flowing through the others anyway.

Eh, none of the PS3's exclusives other than Heavy Rain interest me anyway. And, before anyone accuses me of PS3-bashing, none of the 360's exclusives other than some of their DLC interests me, either. I rented Halo 3 just because I've already played the first two and it was there, and I still have yet to even try Gears of War. Exclusives as a whole are an obnoxious invention that benefits only the publishers at the expense of the gamers. In my world, all games would be multi-platform and include releases on the PC.

No need for apology, that's probably how the majority of people feel about the situation. Multiplatformed games are the big blockbusters this year. The only exception is FFXIII, but that's in JPN only and GOWIII if it comes out.

The only exclusive that Sony has that really has that could cause a quake is Uncharted 2, which I had forgotten about in my earlier post. Though I don't know if I see that turning heads as much as it should

Oh yeah, I wanted to play Uncharted as well. That'll be the second game I try if Heavy Rain makes me get a PS3.

I agree with you Corp, I'm more interested in the multi-platform games like Ultimate Alliance 2 and Arkham Assylum. I haven't really played any of MS exclusives or have no interests to do so, and the only two that Sony has that I really like are Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted.

The only company that has a successful string of first party exclusive titles are Nintendo, but that is to be expected, since most of their characters have survived successfully for over twenty years.

But that is kind of what I love about having both the Wii and the 360, I get the best of Nintendo's first party line up, while also enjoying the multi platform shiny titles that hit the 360. Woo.

Eh, I can take or leave virtually everything on the Wii except for Smash Bros. Brawl, which I can play at my friend's house anyway. The Wii doesn't really appeal to me.

That's cool for you. I personally love the Wii...but that comes from the fact that I skipped two generations of Nintendo consoles, and the Wii was the first system of theirs I bought since the SNES. I never cared for the N64 or GC. Fortunately I'm catching up on titles from both systems using the Wii.

I don't fault others for not liking them though. :p

Except for you Corp...I do fault you! :cmad: ;)

Well, I fault you for getting Gunstar Heroes on the Virtual Console. My favorite Genesis game and I can never play it again because I'm not willing to drop $200 on a console for pretty much just Gunstar Heroes. :cmad:

And I'm smiling the whole time I play it. :D

Gunstar heroes is worth the 200 bucks though. :p

Lol, I feel about the same as you Corp, but I was able to get a Wii for cheap as dirt. I've enjoyed it more then I thought I would. No More Heroes and Madworld were great, though of course they both sold like ****, but I enjoyed them. Muramasa is another coming up, too. Mine came with a few VC games as well from the previous owner, which of course includes Gunstar Heroes ;)

Capcom has revealed their game lineup for E3 2009, or perhaps it's better to say mostly revealed, with two mystery titles making their debut at the show.

For the most part, Capcom's E3 2009 lineup is made up of games you have either already heard about or even already played. They'll be showing off the PC versions of Bionic Commando and Street Fighter; upcoming sequels like Lost Planet 2, Dead Rising 2, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (not technically a sequel, I know), and Mega Man Star Force 3; and new titles such as Spyborgs and Fate Unlimited Codes.

The most intriguing titles at Capcom's E3 booth are two we don't know about yet.

One will be playable at the booth, while another is being announced at their press conference. While the press conference title is anyone's guess. I would welcome anything, as long as it means I don't have to sit through a Lost Planet movie panel again. The new playable title would mean a game already far along enough to play. Monster Hunter Tri, perhaps?

Well, this is certainly interesting. Wonder what Capcom's big ? titles are

I hope my new Mega Man prediction is true, but it would also be cool to see new Onimusha, Steel Battalion, or Dino Crisis. Maybe Monster Hunter? So many great possiblities.

Do we really need so many E3 threads
I think its best the way things are set up. E3 is such a huge event that news will easily get lost in the shuffle if they are all pooled into one thread.

Are they touching up the sprites on MvC2 like they did for the Street Fighter 2 re-release a while back? I don't see why it would warrant coverage at E3 if it's just a straight port onto XBLA and PSN.

They have made the game widescreen, and provided 3 different filters to make the sprites look better (or the same) on HD televisions.

People love MvC2, having it on the floor will just attract more people to their section.

As great as that would be, nothing can beat the sublime greatness of Suikoden II.

Seeing the main badguy stand up to three groups of six people and still act like a cocky sadistic monster was awesome. Sad thing, it still took all three groups to kill one guy.

Awesome boss battle.

It may very well be one of the best boss battles ever.

Still, Suikoden V was the best since 2, so I look forward to seeing where VI will go. Plus, Harmonia damn it!

What's this? Possible Beyond Good & Evil 2 footage?

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/08/rumor-beyond-good-and-evil-2-footage-leaked-and-lovely/

Video of what appears to be Beyond Good & Evil 2 gameplay (or a target rendering of such) has made its way online via Kotaku. The one minute clip depicts a character who either is -- or looks incredibly like -- series heroine Jade escaping pursuers in a crowded marketplace using parkour moves a la Mirror's Edge's Faith.

Of course, this could very well be an elaborate -- and well-executed -- fan project and the character might not be Jade at all, but she certainly appears to reflect the updated character design seen in the all-too-short teaser for the game Ubisoft released last year. Oh, and Maybe-Jade, is that a sword on your back?

Perhaps someone in France -- Ubisoft's home turf, and where the site Kotaku says the video originated is located -- just had to slip this out oh-so-very-close to E3. If it is BG&E 2 and is actual gameplay, then wow. If someone's toying with our emotions? Totally. Not. Funny.

Went ahead and posted this here as I expect, if this is the real deal, we'll be seeing an E3 showing for it. Video at the link, looks pretty darn fine

http://www.psu.com/Sony-reveals-E3-09-line-up-News--a007151-p0.php

With E3 2009 less than a month away, Sony has confirmed its line-up for the event. We expect that outside of these 10 games, Sony will also be revealing a few secret titles at the conference, such as the long-awaited Team ICO title and perhaps even Rockstar's PS3 exclusive.

Here is the official list:

- Fat Princess
- God of War III
- Heavy Rain
- inFamous
- MAG
- Ratchet & Clank: Future A Crack In Time
- Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
- White Knight Chronicles
- MotorStorm: Arctic Edge
- SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals Fireteam Bravo 3

Looks like a fine line-up. With Heavy Rain and God Of War III hopefully we'll see a solid date.

Looks amazing, a cross between Ubi´s own Assassin´s Creed and EA´s Mirro´s Edge.
But i bet that´s not gamplay, but rather CGI.
Not for the graphics, but because there is no HUD, and the "guy playing" doesn´t miss a beat.

I would agree regularly, but if you notice in the video there are several times when the characters pauses for a moment as if the player is stopping to think for a moment. Also, it looks to be a very straight forward, linear escape path in this instance, not entirely impossible to easily spot where to go.

Plus, there's a heartbeat-type noise near the end when she jumps and falls on the roof to probably indicate critical health. I doubt that would be in CGI scene.

Though odds are it is CGI, but it's doesn't really look like you would see in a CGI movie to me.

The BG&E footage looks nice but not like gameplay. It's always hard for me to get excited about stuff at E3, since it's so rarely any practical gameplay goodness. I don't give a s*** about how nice devs can make cutscenes look.

It would be awesome though if the gameplay ends up looking something like that.

Yeah, it would. They had segments that were similar to that in the first game, where you're on the run and you have to avoid obstacles. And it'll probably look really good, given how far graphics have come since the first game. But I doubt it'll be that fluid.
