E3 2009

The BG&E footage looks nice but not like gameplay. It's always hard for me to get excited about stuff at E3, since it's so rarely any practical gameplay goodness. I don't give a s*** about how nice devs can make cutscenes look.

I agree, show gameplay since CG tells us nothing of import about a game.

That's why Sony was so confused as to why the press wasn't peeing themselves about their "reveal" of GOW3 last E3. It was all mindless CG, which told noone nothing about the game.

I really want to see what Kojima Productions has been up to.

Specifically I hope they have some kind of info on some new Metal Gear. Usually they wait two years after their previous game was launched, but with MGS4, we got the first trailer less than a year after the release of MGS3.

I thought MGS4 was supposed to be the conclusion of the story Kojima wanted to tell.

It was the conclusion of Snake's story, yes. But Kojima and his team (not to mention Konami) always had plans for more Metal Gears.

I think that Metal Gear Solid 4 was the perfect end to that series and I feel that anything that comes after it will just be milking the franchise. Speaking as a Metal Gear fan, I'm just not interested in any more games.

the only system I see getting a new Metal Gear Solid game announced in the near future is the PSP. The handheld has gotten tremendous 3rd party support in the past couple of months. Konami has already pushed out several MG games for it and its been a while since one has been released. Im thinking a sequel to Portable Ops is very likely

Bethesda is revealing their next game at E3 this year:

Bethesda Europe's Sean Brennan made a few comments to GI.biz regarding the super-secretive mystery title that Splash Damage has been working on. We've known about its existence since May of 2008, yet we've not been able to get any kind of details on the game. Well, Brennan says that's all going to change at next month's E3.

But, even before the show has had a chance to start, Brennan was kind enough to drop a few small details. First of all, we now know the game is going to be a first-person shooter. Brennan describes it as a "genre-breaker" and real "killer app," and compares the game's quality to Bethesda's last title, Fallout 3. He says the game will feature some innovative features and that the company has spent considerable resources on creating this game. From our end, it would seem most of those resources went into keeping a lid on it.

^That's a little misleading. haha. More like Bethesda is revealing Splash Damage's next game at E3.

Oops, my bad, totally misread that. Oh well, whatever, they got a game they will be revealing

CGI or not, Beyond Good and Evil 2 is a must-buy for me
Me, too. Just saying, some actual gameplay footage would be better than a pre-rendered cutscene. As it stands, we really don't know much more about the game now than we did from that first trailer of Pey'j and Jade working on their car on a dusty road.

Ancel is behind it, Beyond Good & Evil was a overlooked gem...I will also be buying it solely on principle. Plus I doubt Ancel would allow his baby to be released as anything less than spectacular.

I wonder how long it took him to convince them to allow him the funds to do a sequel to the commercial failure that was his first game?

Maybe sales have picked up since it was added to Steam. Like the video game equivalent to a big DVD sales jump for a movie that failed at the box office.

Maybe, I'm hoping that all these years of BG&E showing up on all kinds of best of lists, that maybe it has enough credibility to sell the sequel.

That's what they thought for the Wii re-release of Okami, but we know how well that turned out. :csad:

Well, hopefully there won't be any ghosts at E3 because the Ghostbusters look to be MIA at the event :(

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/12/atari-pulls-out-of-e3-current-plans-in-question/

Atari has pulled out of E3, a mere three weeks before the must-attend mega-event is set to kick off. When contacted for comment, the company told Joystiq that it was a "proactive decision to attend but not exhibit at this year's E3 event." Although the publisher feels E3 benefits the industry, it is currently focused on "other selling and marketing initiatives" for Ghostbusters, Champions Online and "other to be announced titles." It sounds to us like someone is out of cash, which is the word on the street (and might explain Ghostbusters' surprise exclusivity in Europe).

We contacted the ESA, which runs E3 and still has Atari listed as an exhibitor, to see if the organization had received a check from Atari for the space on the show floor and meeting room -- the ESA referred all media calls to Atari. We contacted Atari and asked several direct questions regarding its E3 status -- and whether it has paid for the space it reserved. A company representative could only confirm that it will not attend the show and did not have any press events planned for LA during E3. We've been told that we should expect a more detailed answer sometime soon.

Doesn't matter since the game is being release 2 weeks after E3.

Yeah, but it'd be nice if it were there for E3. Plus, think if there is ghosts!

Curious what the folks at Kojima Productions have been up to since they shipped Metal Gear Solid 4 nearly a year ago? Of course you are. That's why we're pretty sure you'll be just as perplexed and intrigued as we were when you see the cryptic email we received from a source within Konami early this morning.

Bearing the subject line "T -3 days" and containing only a link (http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/next) pointing to a currently barren section of Konami's Japanese website, the email message appears to be a dead end -- for now. You'd better believe we'll be checking back regularly over the next few days to see if anything actually comes of this tease, though.

I'm going to go ahead and post this is here instead of making a new thread or something. It might end up being nothing, or another MGS Touch situation. Most likely if it's something of worth we'll see it at E3 anywho

EDIT: http://kotaku.com/5251936/hey-look-some-kojima-productions-ad-announcing-an-announcement

Another link that shows some magazine ads for the announcement. Allegedly you can make out all kinds of stuff in the clouds. Not at all sure if there being serious in the article or not

I don´t know why, but i have the feeling that his new game will be a 360 exclusive.
I might be wrong, i have nothing to back it up, besides the feeling that, for not having MGS4 on the 360, Microsoft might have gone to Kojima and asked for the next game to be on their console.
And, i can´t find no reason why he would say no...unless he can´t stand the console.
This might be one of Microsoft´s big announcements.

Of course you have that feeling:whatever: Wouldn't keep your hopes up for that, he's never came out and said it, but Kojima is pretty loyal to Sony, might even be a fanboy. He's probably open to developing for the 360, but I don't see him leaving Sony totally out of the equitation, I know I'll be surprised if that ends up being the case. Only exception would be that project that he's suppose to be doing with Grasshopper, which I think that will be more their decisions over his.

Not to mention he ****ing loves the death out of Apple

Anyway, looks like that T-3 thing is probably just a countdown to an E3 announcement:

Metal Gear Solid series overlord and Kojima Productions head Hideo Kojima has already gone on record as saying an official game announcement from the developer will happen at E3 2009. The hype, however, starts now.

According to a report from 1UP, Kojima Productions appears to be in the initial phases of teasing that announcement. In fact, it looks like the Metal Gear team is being brash enough to tease the teaser of that announcement, tipping the site off to a countdown of what will surely be a countdown.

That "T-3" pre-teaser countdown supposedly lasts for three days, which could mean an announcement of an announcement as early as this Friday. Yes, it may very well be time to finish work on that hype-proof bunker, dear reader.

Will Kojima Productions finally revisit the Zone of the Enders series? What about those future Snatcher projects? Will someone finally reveal what Metal Gear Arcade is? Is Konami finally readying a Metal Gear Solid 4 port for... no, let's not go there just yet.

Hideo Kojima says he has two game projects in the works, one of which is squarely aimed at the Western market. E3 might be the right place to make that announcement.

Just remember that the last time we got caught up in Kojima Productions hype, we wound up with Metal Gear Solid Touch. Kojima and crew can make announcements of all shapes and sizes, so keep calm and carry on.

After this particular piece of crap, there really isn´t any point in saying anything, so, to hell with it.

I could care less. It's obvious that you are pretty bias towards MS for whatever reasons and if it makes you that mad just to point it out, I concur, to hell with it.

I just saw a preview for this, but for all of you King Of Kong fans, Steve Wiebe will attempt to reclaim the high score record for the arcade version of Donkey Kong live on G4 either at the conference or during their live coverage of the show. Not sure which day that'll actually be, but I thought it was interesting.

New ad for Kojima's next game.

If you closely, the clouds seem to form a face as if the person is laying face up. The dark storm clouds could point to Raiden which Japanese stands for storm.

Yeah, I edited that in my first post about the announcement.

According to the Kotaku article you can see all types of things outlined in the clouds. I can't see them honestly, but I've never been good at that type of thing. There are also some people and a house in the distant background.

Not sure what to think of it really.
