Editing sound files

Are there any easily downloadable mp3 editing programs that I could use to edit a sound file?

that doesn't seem to work with mp3 files. At least when I tried it. Do ya have anything like a digital sound mixer?

Ummm on mine it works with mp3 files, edited loads with it.
