'Will Eisner: Profession: Cartoonist' - new documentary now available

eisner_prof_cartoonist.jpg
Brazilian artist Marisa Furtado de Oliveira's documentary on the life of Will Eisner has been picked up by Image Entertainment and will be on sale December 16th.
Read more at the Image Entertainment page.

Further info from Scoop at Diamond Galleries:
[The DVD] includes new animated sequences, beautifully crafted using Eisner's original art. The first of its kind to do so, this three-part documentary dives deeply into Eisner's life and career, featuring the cartoonist himself demonstrating his talent and technique. Interviews with comic legends, including Art Spiegelman, Bill Sinkiewicz, Denis Kitchen, Jerry Robinson, Ann Eisner, Angeli Guazzelli, Lailson, Mauricio de Souza, Ota, Ziraldo, Jano, and Francois Shuiten are given. The film, originally released in 1999, is making its way to U.S. shores...

I've been waiting for this to come out in the US for years. It looks really, really good, and has great interviews... noticably and mercifully leaving out Frank Miller who doesn't honestly know all that much about Eisner... no matter what he tells his minions.

The animated sequences are well done and the docu seems to cover about everything.

Timely released for Christmas or Hannukah shopping.

...and the release of Frank Miller's The Spirit, which will not document Eisner's work in the least.

:) You are so right!!

I'll be checking this out. Eisner helped make comics what they are today, from an artist and writer standpoint. He deserves the praise he gets. And if anything he should get more.
