Electronic Gaming Monthly is no more.

Sigh...tis a shame. EGM was a favorite of mine, though I must admit I quit buying it long ago. Their price was too damn high (the last one I bought was north of 6 dollars) and I really just can't justify that when it is half the cost of a full year's subscription to G.I. (plus a Gamestop card to boot).

I remember back when it had a spinoff as well, EGM2

It will start giong that way with physical media like cd's/dvd's/Blueray in the coming 5-10 years also I think with digital distrabution.

It's an organized conspiracy to make shelves obsolete.

what saddens me more is that the 1up show is also over, since most of the people involved were shown the door. It really makes me sad.

Sad to hear. I think I canceled my subscription last year. Sucks that a lot of people got laid off. Fortunately there are still a lot of internet outlets for gaming like GameTrailers.com

I use to be subscribed to EGM for years as a child, my mother would always resubscribe for me, when I was 16, I suddenly stopped subscribing and would sometimes buy it from the stands. At the airport over Christmas Holidays I looked at an issue cause it had a Resident Evil 5 cover story and I was surprised at just how thin the magazine had become.

Now there closed, that sucks. They always were a fav of mine, but yes in this day and age almost all print is becoming obsolete.

I cannot believe it is gone.I remember reading it just about every day after school.

Well, I think this thread shows why they are gone. How many of you used to have a subscription?

I didn't renew mine only b/c I was going to college. I've had a subscription for at least 8 years.

Well, once Game Informer is gone, I'm pretty much screwed. EGM getting axed is a bitter blow, but I stopped reading their mag once the price went up and the quality went down.

Currently only reading GI and Nintendo Power. I know we don't have to worry about NP, as they're owned by Nintendo; in many cases, NP will have exclusive stories on games before the internet. That's a perk to being owned by a major game company.

I've gotten Nintendo Power for 10 years. I always enjoyed it. I don't find their reviews to be very biased. Sometimes they're too generous, other times too harsh. I mostly get it for the other stuff anyway. I go to GameTrailers for reviews.

I go to Metacritic for reviews, Gamespot for screenshots, Digg for news, and GamesRadar for funny fluff pieces.

That is way too busy, man. EGM used to cover it all. Now....:csad:

Well as I explained before Game Informer will prolly not go out because they are published and distributed by Gamestop so that prolly won't happen any time soon.

If it were different magazines, maybe, but I just type different stuff into my browser. Functionally, you're still only going to one place for all of it: teh intarwebz.

I stick to IGN and Gametrailers. I'm more interested in people talking about games and seeing videos then I am about reviews, though I tend to agree with IGN, plus their podcasts are hilarious.

Dang, it took me a few days, but the thing about losing EGM that's going to hit me the hardest, just now hit me-- no more "The Rest of the Crap" with Seanbaby. :(

That sucks. :csad:

It defintely wasn't my favorite gaming mag, but I picked up a good amount of issues every year.

EGM Returns With Mass Effect 2 Cover, Old Logo

Steve Harris, Electronic Gaming Monthly's founder and once again owner after re-acquiring its publishing rights earlier this year, revealed the returning magazine's cover for its planned December 2009 issue, which features Mass Effect 2's Commander Shepard (in fact, it's a variation of the game's boxart).
Issue #238, EGM's first since former owner Ziff Davis suspended publishing in January 2009 following its sale of the 1UP Network to UGO/Hearst, promises a collection of previews for 2010 games such as Super Mario Galaxy 2, Bioshock 2, Halo Reeach, and many others.
The cover also brings back the Electronic Gaming Monthly logo that was replaced in early 2007 with the shorter EGM, though this logo has a slight change in its stripe.

So it's the Family Guy of gaming mags now.

Yeah, probably.

I wish print wasn't as close to dying in this country as it is. :( I'll probably always have my subscription to Game Informer because they tend to have a lot of world premier first looks and also because it's very cheap. I'm thinking about maybe checking out GamePro again now that John Davison is heading the mag.

I think that the death of print is being over-exaggerated. The problem is that media companies as a whole just haven't found the proper Internet strategy yet.
