From comic-to-big screen for this sci fi epic.
by Todd Gilchrist

US, August 7, 2007 - On Monday, August 6, 2007, Variety announced that Gianni Nunnari and Nick Weschler optioned the rights to Warren Ellis' graphic novel Ocean. According to the trade, Nunnari and Weschler plan to adapt the property for a "big-scale alien thriller."

Nunnari previously produced Zack Snyder's adaptation of Frank Miller's 300 and Martin Scorsese's Academy Award-winning The Departed. Weschler executive-produced Darren Aranofksy's The Fountain and Spike Lee's The 25th Hour. The pair recently teamed up to produce Miller's Ronin, with Stomp the Yard helmer Sylvain White signed on to direct.

Ocean follows the travails of Nathan Kane, a United Nations weapons inspector who journeys to Jupiter's ocean moon, Europa, to examine the supposed coffins of an alien race and a cache of weapons that are capable of destroying an entire planet. As Kane attempts to uncover the true story behind these amazing discoveries, he and his team is threatened by a corporate conglomerate that will stop at nothing to keep the information secret.

Please get a good director

I'm not familiar with this GN but it sounds very interesting.

I  you Tza, you always take an interest in new movies:cwink:

I think this has an epic sound to it, IF they can get a high quality director it could be big.

Ryan Condal Penning Ocean
Source: The Hollywood Reporter

Ryan Condal will adapt Ocean, a comic miniseries by Warren Ellis that is set up at Warner Bros. Nick Wechsler and Hollywood Gang's Gianni Nunnari are producing, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The story revolves around the discovery of thousands of coffins containing angel-like bodies and a giant weapon of mass destruction beneath the ice on Europa, one of Jupiter's moons. A U.N. weapons inspector is sent to investigate the find, teaming with a space station crew, when a powerful conglomerate moves in to exploit the discovery.

Six issues of the comic book were published in 2005 and 2006, with Wechsler and Nunnari optioning the film rights in August 2007. The two are also working on bringing Frank Miller's "Ronin" to the big screen.

This really does sound like it could be amazing.

Graphic novel....the new horror genre.

I don't think it a horror. I read this comic a long time ago. The lead character looks like Sam Jackson to me.

Wow. That's an interesting story.

Can't wait to hear more.

I read the GN. Thought it was alright. Could make a great movie though.

Anyone got any art from the book ? Ive had no looks finding any pages online.
