I actually thought the opposite. He looks to be actually acting. Between this, 42, and Anchorman I look forward to seeing him in movies

I think it's pretty clear they're trying to sell this on the action component, but I rather doubt that's all that is in this film. While I'm sure liberties have been taken, it seems like the core ideas are still intact, and they're selling this on a sort of propaganda level, much like the book does with the idea of killing the Buggers. This looks pretty solid, at least visually and effectswise. I'm hopeful that some of the meat of the book shows up in here as well.

Jablonsky is a good composer.

Anyone else getting tired of people calling this a Halo rip-off?

Definitely. His music is usually wasted on the movies they're in, which is a shame.

Jablonsky was my pick for the MoS score, he knows how to create some grand scale music.

jablonsky is so underrated

I actually like him better than current-day Hans Zimmer. Hell, I'd say he's almost as good as Zimmer was back during his Gladiator and The Prince of Egypt days.

And say what you will about the Transformers films, "Arrival to Earth" is probably one of the best themes he's ever composed. And it's companion, "There is No Plan" is just as great.

I'm not going to lie, just listening to that sometimes brings me to tears. I'm just a sucker for piano and violin.

Several years ago I would be far more interested in this as a movie but it's since been tarnished in so many ways and the trailers have not inspired me to see it in the theater. I'll rent it on Netflix unless it turns out to be far better than what I've seen implies. And this is something I really wanted to see adapted into a movie.

This is why I kinda get annoyed by modern sci-fi movies. I know traditional sci-fi is all about 'predicting' what could happen, but because today's world is so 'tech savvy', the future is now. So when I see a trailer for a movie like this, it's the same type of designs I've seen so many times. It's because everyone's on the same wavelength with designing sci-fi movies and games that they all look so much alike. It's boring.

I miss the fantastical aspect of sci-fi too. Where you could a little fun with technology and futurism. Be daring. It's also called 'fiction'..go out there. Make a future that looks like a Mobius comic book (Besides Fifth Element).

I liked old sci-fi movies like Logan's Run because they imagined a future on what they knew back in the 70's. As cheesy as it looks, it had beeping charm.

I am not boycotting one of the greatest science fiction books based on one aspect of the authors religion.

They aren't forcing anyone to boycott the film. It's still coming out and the people who want to see it will and the people who don't want to see it won't. I don't know why people on any side of any issue get so offended at boycotts?
