In the near future, a hostile alien race (called the Formics) have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander, Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Graff (Harrison Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young children to find the future Mazer. Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy, but strategically brilliant boy is pulled out of his school to join the elite.

Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult war games, distinguishing himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military’s next great hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School. Once there, he’s trained by Mazer Rackham, himself, to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and save the human race.

Very curious on this one. The book was great (despite the slight uneasiness of some of the scenes).

Man, where is all the hype for this? The first photo from the film was released and it's no where to be found on the Hype

It's the director who pretty much kills the hype for me. If they had found someone more competent, this would've been one of my most anticipated upcoming films. Seriously, one of the most famous sci-fi novels of all time and they get Gavin Hood to write and direct it.

Ok, consider me intrigued by this one! :woot:

Man...this film is going to be fantastic if that picture alone is any indication!

Speaking with EW Hood talked about making a change to the book in order to ensure that Butterfield would play Ender throughout the entire film:

“I discussed this at length with Orson,” says Hood. “The decision was made very early on to compress the time period into about a year, so that we could have the same actor from beginning to end… We were trying to hit that sweet spot right around 12, which Asa fits in very nicely.” Hood said the decision was mostly a practical one: “When you sit down for two hours, you’re just beginning to bond with an actor, and then he changes and suddenly you’re bonding with someone who’s meant to be the same person, but you know he’s a different actor.”

Those worried about major changes from the book, however, can rest easy knowing that Hood has maintained the novel’s rather dark ending:

“That ending — and the complex moral questions that it raises — is one of the reasons why I love the book, ” says Hood. “I promise you that it is very much there.”

That's Butterfield? Puberty got him, I guess.

No, he's been altered by the special effects. In real life, he's still a pre-teen boy.
Sad that Thomas Horn didn't do Ender's Game, but went with another space themed film that seems more childish and poor

Please tell me this is not Hunger Games 2.0

Hollywood needs some originality, please.

Gavin Hood is a great, oscar winning director. just because his wolverine film was rubbish doesn't mean he's a bad director. that film had tom rothman's greasy paw prints all over it.

Gavin Hood is a good writer and director.

He wrote and directed an Oscar winning film (Tsotsi) for crying out loud.

If your worried because of how cruddy XM Origins: Wolverine was, don't.

That was wasn't his fault.

That was the product of studio interference ruining a good thing.

Don't read much huh?

ENDER'S GAME written in 1985.....the story of the training of Ender Wiggin from the age of 4 to 17 to be the savior of the Earth and humans from an alien invasion that we barely survived once before.

I'm glad all the alcohol Ford drinks pickled him to perserve his look a bit.

Personally, for a 70 year old Ford looks good. I think he hit the brick wall in his 60's but now he's past that threshold where he looks age appropriate (if not a little younger than his actual age NOW) but still tough looking.

I just started reading the book and I'm loving it so far. Hoping to finish it before the first trailer comes out.

I'm also really glad that they aged up the youth ensemble. I have zero interest in watching a serious sci-fi movie packed to the gills with 6-year-olds who can't act.

I wish people would say this about M. Night Shyamalan. :csad:
