Game of thrones has kids doing all sorts of crap, best way around it, up age them.

And then....you are not filming the book....so the book is unfilmable.

The movie ENDER'S GAME is a good "adaptation" of the book....but it isn't the book.

Eh any book is filmable if you have the right people behind it

It's not unfilmanle due to the story. Rather, the alien species the book revolves around would just look mostly dumb in live action...they're essentially intelligent pigs interacting with people. It's a really good book though.

This was a good adaptation of the book, but not a great one. I think if it were 30 minutes longer and included the sub plots concerning Valentine and Peter, it would have been much better. As it stands,

Ender's relationship to Valentine doesn't have much depth in the film (which hurt the boat scene big time) and the ending of the film lacked that emotional punch since they cut the Speaker of the Dead angle and Ender making himself a fugitive. The military just letting him go on his merry way with the queen was very weak, and it took away some of the emotional punch the ending of the book had.

The book is an easy 5/5 for me. The movie is a 3/5 movie. Good, but flawed.

Just got back, I quite enjoyed it. I'd give it a 7.5/10. I've never read the book but I migth check it out now.

How many books are there in Ender's story?

For Ender himself, 5 that I know of. Ender's Game, Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, and Children of the Mind (I am currently reading Children of the Mind). There is also a book that came later called Ender in Exile. But, there is also the Ender's Shadow series, which stars Bean. There are also a couple prequel/tie-in books and stories about the Bugger (or Formic as per movie) War.

Thank you. I found myself quite liking Bean in the movie.

Well its number 1 at the boxoffice this weekend. First Ford hit in quite sometime.

42 was more of a sleeper hit. This is a big commercial hit.

This is a fantastic movie. Good, solid adaption. I was a bit worried about 15-20 minutes in, as they rushed through some of the earlier stuff to get Ender into Battle School, but it gelled nicely, and this may be one of the better science fiction films I've ever seen. Ford most certainly does not mail it in, and Butterfield is very good. Jablonsky's score elevates this movie, and the effects and visuals are stunning. Hood redeemed himself with this one.

Oh yeah, that may be hard to do seriously

It's actually not a big hit at all. It's openings in the few overseas markets it was released in were low and 28mil isn't a very good opening at all. It opened to After Earth numbers as a matter of fact. Thor is probably going to kill it this weekend. Barring great legs domestically and a huge over performance internationally in the rest of it's markets it's looking like a disappointment for the studios involved.

42 was a sleeper hit. This is doing fine. Nothing exceptional. Ford's last big hit was KOTCS and just happened to be a mega blockbuster!

Well at least there's no Smurfs to bother Harrison Ford this time

No one knows what it's legs are going to be but it's opening really isn't fine, it really isn't doing fine right now. These are painfully mediocre numbers at best. I just read the numbers in front of me, I'm not going to sugarcoat them.

Do you think this movie is dropping less than 50% next weekend? Anything is possible but I'd be a little surprised. And then Catching Fire comes out on the 22nd. When is it going to have time to make money?

Fine then. It isn't doing fine. It's going to have a big drop with Thor and Catching Fire coming out.

Don't worry, Harrison will make up for this by making Indy 5.

I wasn't really arguing about the state of Ford's career, I was just trying to talk about the box office numbers of this one film a bit. I don't see this movie as a referendum on the state of Ford's career one way or the other. Ford is in his 70's he's never going to be a big leading man again. That's just the way things work.

I'm talking about the film's box office because it's a would be blockbuster November release. It's interesting to me that with no huge direct competition that this film couldn't open with at least 35mil. And lets be honest, there isn't any proof what-so-ever that people even knew about any boycotts and if they did the movie would have had a better opening weekend.

I saw this movie last night and loved it. Don't judge it by the trailers, because they didn't do it justice. Don't read any reviews until you go and see it...a few of the reviews I've read this morning, positive and negative, missed the mark or were heavily biased for one reason or another. If you're a fan of the book, I suggest going in with an open mind and trying to understand how the filmmakers had to work around certain limitations. At the end of the day, at the very least, set aside whatever differences you may have with the book's author, and other minor quibbles and go see this for the outstanding and heartfelt performances by an amazing group of very young actors.

There were many scenes in this movie that were exhilarating and fun, and plenty of other scenes and aspects that were extremely disturbing, haunting and sometimes brutally violent. There is simply not enough time to sufficiently tackle the various themes and elements in the story, but I felt that they gave it an honest effort. It would've been fuller and richer if they had been able to split it into two or three separate films. Nevertheless, if you're a fan of the genre, then I highly recommend giving this one a chance while it's still on the big screen.

As usual, the smug sense of self-righteousness on display from boycotters is growing tedious. Not all of them, mind. Just the ones that can't seem to stop talking about it.

Does Harrison point in this movie?

^Haha, nice. And yes, we can add this movie to that montage.

Hope they come out with a more cerebral, extended edition without the hand holding narration. I thought the movie was really good. Good mix of story and visuals.

I like when someone mentions this is Ford's biggest hit in a while. Then "42" is brought up. "Oh...well, he hasn't had a mega hit since KOTCS." Da fuh??

The man is about to appear in Anchorman 2, Expendables 3, and Episode VII. His box office relevance is fine.

BTW, "42" was great and "Ender's Game" was quite good.

I really loved the hell out of it, it's these kinds of films that I wish I had growing up.

One of the bigger surprises of the year.

On a visual standpoint I think it brings the book to life wonderfully. The cast is spot on and the drama and themes of the book are all mostly well represented.

There are gonna be fans of the book that whine and cut the movie down for not doing this or that, but I pride myself (a little smuggly to be honest) on being able to divorce myself from a book and it's film adaptation. There are things in the book that I would have liked to see developed more in the film, but as a FILM in it's own right it's damn good and one of the better sci-fi films in a while.
