The climax of last season (or the second season for me, I like to think in 13s) was considered by many to be pretty anticlimactic. The producers themselves have admitted it didn't turn out the way they hoped and the buildup to Starro the Conqueror works much better, but I was wondering what you guys thought of it?

He appeared in the teaser of Mystery in Space, main body of When OMAC Attacks and main body (obviously) of The Fate of Equinox.

Myself? I would argue that the arc wasn't as bad as others made it out to be.

For one, while I felt the last ep was rushed, I don't think the character of Equinox suffered, I felt he was consistently enjoyable and definitely one of the better and well developed characters in BTBATB. He was a great call back to those mysterious noirish villains which is why the Question teaser was so appropriate.

For two, he only had a small part anyway so the season didn't really suffer. The three stages of his appearance were all done appropriately too, with his entrance and foreshadowing in the teaser, greater detail on his powers, motive and beliefs in the OMAC episode and finally the full reveal of his origin and plan in the finale.

That said despite my still enjoying the Equinox finale to this day, it certainly didn't live up in my eyes to the Owlman two-parter, and the constant change in scenarios and events in the final episode was jarring. Batman getting everyone's powers was pretty cringy too, I was hoping that fate would and that Batman would serve as a guide, or even better, for everyone to kick in individually against him. The final line was a pretty quick way of finishing too.

Anyhoo, thoughts? Bits of intrigue? Words of the producers? Feel free to share.

not really anything to share, but based on that analysis of Equinox, we might assume starro would be the major arc this season. Im ok with that.

I agree it was rushed abit, but it was an interesting two-parter and the finale fight had really great animation going on. I wouldn't mind seeing him again but for what reason? Revenge? That doesn't work since he's suppose to be all about Balance anyhow. >_>

It didn't carry enough of an impact, which was disappointing because it's a wicked character. It seemed like trying to do too much in a short time. Still enjoyable overall, but it pales to the Owlman two-parter.

Starro is shaping up nicely though.

Since Bats is so clever, knowledge of his enemy is just as useful a tool for fighting evil as his fists. What made Equinox such an intriguing and engaging opponent for the Dark Knight was that we as viewers knew just as much about him as Bats did: zilch! Yet Equinox knew all he needed to know about Bats which not only serves to perplex Bats but adds an element of suspense to the viewers. Who is Equinox? What is his ultimate goal? Then they hit it out of the park by not answering those questions by episode's end.
Then along comes The Fate of Equinox and in fewer than 60 seconds of exposition later, the mystery is gone and Bats and Equinox are on even ground - now it's back to defeating the villain which we've all seen before... even if said villain outpowers Bats.
Had it been better paced it might have worked a little better but not even an unsatisfactory season finale can defeat Batman - plus the Starro arc looks to be fun and I'm more about looking to the future than dwelling on the past.

Yeah it's been confirmed that the mid season finale will be with Starro.

I would love to see Equinox again as I thought he was a great character. He could come back for revenge I suppose since it was revealed that he wasn't in balance at all, which was probably the true reason unkown to even himself that he chose Batman to shed him of his body; they both were both leaning slightly to the chaotic side.

I know it's way late to say this, but good to see you again Mister J, thought you'd gone!
*snip on Zoocrewfan's post*
You make a good analysis there, though I think one plus was that Batman had not yet worked out the revelation of Equinox not being in balance until the end.

Thanks for the praise! I agree that Bats wouldn't have shifted strategies had he been able to knock Equinox out. I'm only surprised that he still tried fisticuffs considering he had gone down that road when Equinox still had a human body and didn't get anywhere. Suddenly Equinox is reborn A GAWWWD, he'd have a better chance? Still, it was fun to see gestalt Bats use his associates' powers.
