The Polar Vortex has made life difficult in many parts of the country, including in Lexington, Kentucky, where temperatures—with the wind chill factored in—dropped to 20 below on Monday. Any outdoor activity there is ill advised, but a prison break in out-of-season, jail-issued clothing is an especially bad idea.

Alas, that's just what Robert Vick attempted on Sunday, when he escaped Blackburn Correctional Complex wearing only prison-issued khaki pants, a shirt and a jacket.

By Monday, with temperatures quickly dropping, Vick had had enough. He walked into a motel and asked the clerk to call police so he could turn himself in. Police quickly arrived and arrested Vick, who—after he was cleared by paramedics—was taken back to Blackburn.

The lesson? Save your jail breaks for spring.

I know you can watch the news in prison so why exactly did he not wait till he wouldn't freeze to death?

I don't always escape prison, but when I do there's a Polar Vortex and I don't want to freeze to death.

Dummy never thought of stealing some clothes?

Heck even Kal-El knew to take some clothes off of a clothesline when he needed them

Blackburn is a low security joint....doesn't even have a fence around it. It's no big thing for people to walk away from it....this idiot just picked the wrong day to do it.

I live in western Ky and it was nuts yesterday. Throughout the day when there actually was precipitation it wasn't snow more like a slight misting but the wind picked up so hard standing outside felt like standing in ice water. It was insane

I'm gonna name my rock band "Polar Vortex."
Shot at stardom: guar-own-teed.

I take it this guy doesn't watch the local news, or the weather channel.

I know that people in the Southern and Eastern United States are not used to the cold weather, but this quote from CBC news is ridiculous:

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence issued disaster declarations, a first step toward seeking federal aid.

It's not like we're heading into an ice age. For goodness sake, Canadians deal with these temperatures every winter and we manage. Humans are good at adapting so adapt, damnit! There are people who are outside in -10 C and have to go inside every 15 minutes to warm up. Really? -10 C is balmy up here in Canada. Yes, we're used to -45 C and colder with the wind, but you get used to it. You adapt. We have to adapt from summer to fall to winter when we have temperature swings of 20 degrees. If we can get used to it and "survive", so can the people down in the States.

It's -38 degress in a Michigan town last night my friends were from. You couldn't be outside for 10 minutes or your skin would freeze. Its pretty nuts out there Cosmic.

Your skin won't freeze. Come on. I was outside in -55 C with the wind one winter pushing my brother's car to his parking spot because it wouldn't start. We were out there for an hour. Still alive. If you wear the proper clothing, you'll be fine. If you don't, smarten up.

Besides, Michigan gets cold winters to begin with. These temperatures, while very rare, have happened before.

"When exposed" are the key words. Bundle up and you'll be fine.

lol dude.....You do understand whole companies shut down because of this right? They were advising people to not go outside at all. Not everyone is as badass as you.

It's called sensationalism. It's not like the apocalypse. You can go outside. It'll be okay.

The media makes this out to be like The Day After Tomorrow. It's not.

F*** this damn cold weather. There's such thing as cold and then there's too damn cold. Last night/this morning was the latter.

And you're making it out to be another day in Spring.

:funny: It does suck. It makes you want to curl up in bed with numerous blankets and hibernate until it's warmer.

Silly Americans. Have fun fighting Slovakia for your hockey bronze in Sochi!

Although to be honest, while Canadians might be tough, our crappy infrastructure is what betrays us. In Toronto, an ice storm that really wasn't that bad managed to almost paralyze the city for a week. Partially because our government decided on a dominant tree species that easily branches out into powerlines and collapse easily under a moderate amount of ice coverage. I believe Toronto came within an inch of declaring a SOE, which would have been ridiculous.
