Escaped Prisoner Turns Self in to Avoid Polar Vortex

Silly Americans. Have fun fighting Slovakia for your hockey bronze in Sochi!

Although to be honest, while Canadians might be tough, our crappy infrastructure is what betrays us. In Toronto, an ice storm that really wasn't that bad managed to almost paralyze the city for a week. Partially because our government decided on a dominant tree species that easily branches out into powerlines and collapse easily under a moderate amount of ice coverage. I believe Toronto came within an inch of declaring a SOE, which would have been ridiculous.

I've heard about the power problem in Toronto. The whole area there and the North Eastern United States seems to be overloaded. The grid can't handle it (and with this cold weather, it's even more of a problem with everyone cranking the heat).

I didn't know about the tree issue. That's really...dangerous. A frozen branch caked in ice that collapses the tree is just scary. Mine as well get hit with a lead pipe.

But, the ice looks pretty! :funny: Just bust out the skates and ride the frozen tide.

The problem was the trees falling on overhead lines and exposed transformers exploding. Old infrastructure is a *****.

Oh. And a polar vortex is what we called flushing the toilet before you got the water running. This high altitude mumbo jumbo is something altogether different! And there is no antifreeze involved!

It's called sensationalism. It's not like the apocalypse. You can go outside. It'll be okay.

The media makes this out to be like The Day After Tomorrow. It's not.

It's a problem for children, the elderly, or if you are very frail/thin. I was outside several times during the overnight hours the last 2 nights in zero temps with a -10 wind chill factor, and I was just fine. I'll take that over summer heat any day. But, every person over the age of 60 with whom I've spoken this week is absolutely miserable in this.

Anyone over 60 is always miserable ... They're old, they know it and they can't do jack to change it! Now where did I put my walker and ma pills ...

It was like 38 tonight here in Clearwater FL. Way too freaking cold for the Florida boy

I don't even need to wear a jacket at 38. :woot: But the last time I was in Florida, I had to change clothes 2-3 times a day and felt like the Wicked Witch after Dorothy threw the water on her.
