Etrian Odyssey and the Mystery Dungeon first details
Published 9 hours ago. 8 comments.
Meander about in randomly generated dungeons with custom parties.
Famitsu has gone live with an online preview of the recently announced Etrian Odyssey and the Mystery Dungeon for 3DS, a new collaboration between Atlus and Spike Chunsoft’s respective venerable RPG franchises.

Per the title and as reinforced by the reveal trailer, Etrian Odyssey and the Mystery Dungeon is mechanically a mash-up of sorts between the character customization options and overall setting of the Etrian Odyssey series and the roguelike dungeon-crawling gameplay of the Mystery Dungeon series. In practice, this means that players formulate their own parties of custom characters whose jobs and appearances can be freely selected. Naturally, different jobs bestow characters with different abilities to utilize as they go about their business during exploration.

These characters are then taken into randomly generated dungeons whereby the objective is to reach their inner depths. Only the leader of the party is directly controlled by the player, however, although the others will still attack and provide support. As has been the case with the Mystery Dungeon games from the very beginning, every time players take a turn, whether it’s move a space on the map, attack, or do some other action, enemies then proceed to take theirs and the cycle continues from there. As a result of the randomly generated layouts, each floor will also have different rooms that can be visited, with the overall scale of each area gradually getting bigger and bigger as players make progress.

Etrian Odyssey and the Mystery Dungeon is due out for 3DS on March 5 in Japan.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon localization leaked
Published 1 min ago. 12 comments.
Coming March 2015, according to Play-Asia.
Etrian-Mystery-Dungeon-Play-Asia_12-03_001.jpg

A Play-Asia listing for has leaked a localized version of Atlus and Spike Chunsoft’s recently announced Etrian Odyssey and the Mystery Dungeon. The game will be called Etrian Mystery Dungeon in the western world and launch in North America during March 2015.
The listing comes complete with the English logo, three English screenshots, and an English description. Find the screenshots and description below.
Summary
Far off in the mountains, the small village Aslarga becomes a hub for adventurers looking for fame and fortune from the Mystery Dungeons. But dire challenges await even the most stalwart adventurers in Etrian Mystery Dungeon, a turn-based action RPG roguelike developed by ATLUS and Spike Chunsoft. The Nintendo 3DS exclusive mixes Etrian Odyssey’s vast RPG party and skill customization aspects, and Mystery Dungeon’s infinitely random dungeon adventures. There’s no hand-holding in Etrian Mystery Dungeon. The action/turn based combat means that battling monsters is not just about using the right skills, but becomes an elegant Pas de Quatre of strategic positioning. Players form their parties with familiar Etrian Odyssey classes, such as Landsknecht and Runemaster, customize individuals using Etrian-style skill trees, and then take up to four members into the dungeons. Always randomized with various levels and paths, the dungeons require plenty of exploration, not to mention the incredible loot rewards — just be wary of what waits among the deepest depths.

Features

  • Infinite Dungeons to Explore - Etrian Mystery Dungeon incorporates the random map feature, which changes the floor terrain each time a player enters the dungeon. This core mechanic, inherited from the Mystery Dungeon series, challenges the players with a new maze and stronger monsters every time, offering them unlimited replayability!
  • Attention to Detail - The Etrian Odyssey tradition of party customization is in full effect for Etrian Mystery Dungeon. After the first journey as a Landsknecht, players can freely choose their party of 4 from up to 10 different class types. While each class has a unique skill set of its own, characters can also unlock new skills through skill trees.
  • Not Your Grandfather’s Combat - The unique perspective in Etrian Mystery Dungeon means that special care will have to be given when selecting party members and upgrading their abilities. With dungeons chock full of enemies and all the loot and money collected at stake, being 100 percent certain in your party’s abilities is crucial for making it out alive.
Thanks, NeoGAF.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon coming to the Americas in spring 2015

Atlus and Spike Chunsoft collaboration confirmed for western release.
Etrian-MD-US-Spring-2015.jpg

Following a Play-Asia leak this morning, Atlus has confirmed Etrian Mystery Dungeon is coming to 3DS in the Americas in spring 2015.
The game is a fusion of Atlus’ Etrian Odyssey series and Spike Chunsoft’s Mystery Dungeon series. It will offer tons of customization, the character leveling system of Etrian Odyssey, the infinitely random nature of Mystery Dungeon, and tons of loot and equipment to find.
The game will also have tons of exploration. Dungeons are randomly generated and populated with monsters, traps, and loot. When you’re not in a dungeon, you can visit the village of Aslarga to sell, heal, gear up, and form rescue parties.
Rather than the traditional first-person view of Etrian Odyssey games, Etrian Mystery Dungeon adapts the fixed perspective of Mystery Dungeon, allowing players to contorol a group of up to four characters.
Find a full outline of the game below.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon Is The First Etrian Odyssey To Be Rated E10+ In A While. December 9, 2014 . 11:32am

Etrian Mystery Dungeon has been rated by the ESRB for its U.S. release.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon has been rated by the ESRB for its U.S. release. The ratings board gave the game an “E10+” rating, citing the following descriptors: Alcohol Reference, Fantasy Violence, Language, Mild Blood, Mild Suggestive Themes.

Here’s the full rating summary:

This is a role-playing game in which players lead a group of adventurers on a quest to save a town from a monster invasion. From a top-down perspective, players explore labyrinths and battle various fantasy creatures (e.g., giant insects, dragons, carnivorous plants). Players select moves/attacks from a menu-screen of options; characters are briefly shown attacking enemies with swords, staffs, rifles, and magic spells. During the course of the game, some female characters wear outfits that reveal large amounts of cleavage. The game contains brief references to alcohol (e.g., “No, it’s been a while since I drank that heavily. But you’ll never catch me passed out drunk.”). The words “p*ssed off” and “a*s” appear in dialogue.
Etrian Mystery Dungeon is the first Etrian Odyssey game in while to receive the E10 rating, the other two being Etrian Odyssey II and III. The first Etrian Odyssey was rated “T” (Teen), as were Etrian Odyssey IV and Etrian Odyssey Untold.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon Introduces The Landsknecht, Protector, Runemaster, And Medic. December 12, 2014 . 3:47am

Here’s a look at four classic classes, and how they’ll play in the upcoming game.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon is an upcoming collaboration between Atlus’ Etrian Odyssey dungeon crawler series and Spike Chunsoft’s roguelike Mystery Dungeon games. Here’s a look at four classic classes, and how they’ll play in the upcoming game.

Landsknecht:
[YT]vQxDVxNK_6E[/YT]

Similar to Landsknecht classes from past Etrian Odyssey games, they’re back as powerhouses with the ability to deal damage while rushing in. They’re not as sturdy as tanks, but can make up for it with their ability to wipe out multiple foes at a time.

Protector:
[YT]3PSqoqhNBVw[/YT]

Protectors are the Paladins of the Etrian Odyssey world. Contrary to the Landsknecht, they focus more on the tanking role with defensive abilities, and knockback skills like Shield Bash that can be used to push away enemies.

Runemaster:
[YT]pR06put--J0[/YT]

Runemasters are quite useful in various situations, as they can use powerful magic to take out enemies from a distance or inflict some status ailments as well. However, they don’t have much defense, so they’ll need to stay behind melees for the most part.

Medic:
[YT]PIXYqwIN7ec[/YT]

Medics aren’t the best at fighting, but you’ll always want one around, as they’re the main healers of all the classes. They can heal up all the party members in the area, in addition to being able to remove status conditions. They can also perform some status effect attacks of their own as well.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon will release in North America sometime in Spring 2015 for the Nintendo 3DS.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon’s official Japanese box art revealed
Published 3 hours ago. 0 comments.

Shiren homage Wanderer class also revealed.

Famitsu has commenced its weekly round of article previews showcasing what’s to come when the magazine arrives tomorrow, bringing with it the official Japanese box art for Etrian Mystery Dungeon, as seen above.

Their preview also unveils a new class type, the Wanderer. Details for now are scarce until the official article is available for consumption, but fans of the Mystery Dungeon franchise should be able to quickly recognize its resemblance to that of the protagonist from the Shiren the Wanderer series.

Also revealed are two new NPCs that players will encounter over the course of the game, both of which remain unnamed as of this writing. The first of these is the leader of the Adventurer’s Guild, where players go to do things such as create new characters and edit their parties. The second of these characters belongs to Magan’s House, which is the go-to place for picking up missions and reporting back on their results. As Famitsu is keen to point out, there’s also a menu option for this NPC about “Town Development,” although once again there are no specifics to work off of as of yet. The print version of the article is said to reveal two additional NPCs, both of whom are female.

Finally, the existence of DOEs are revealed as a type of special enemy, the name being an obvious riff off of Etrian Odyssey‘s FOEs. Yet again, what the acronym stands for, let alone purpose they serve in the retooled context of Mystery Dungeon-style gameplay, is anybody’s guess for now.
Etrian Mystery Dungeon is slated for a Japanese release on 3DS in Japan on March 5, with a North American release slated for spring 2015.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon Shows How To Fight Off D.O.E. Monsters. January 30, 2015 . 3:20am

Etrian Mystery Dungeon introduces a new type of monsters, called the D.O.E., and they’ll need to be stopped before they damage the town.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon introduces a new type of monsters, called the D.O.E., and they’ll need to be stopped before they damage the town. Atlus shares their latest set of videos for the game, showing you exactly how you’ll attempt to take them out.
[YT]Mto2c-MbVgc[/YT]
When a D.O.E. monster appears in a dungeon, they’ll keep traveling and can even make it to town. Should they do so, they’ll begin destroying parts of it, making it out-of-service for a little while.

Once you catch up to the D.O.E. monster, you’ll get to take it on before it could potentially wreck the town; however, they won’t go down too easily, as you might be able to tell from the video.

[YT]cGLh03XXDz0[/YT]
You’ll also get to place “fortresses” in different areas, that provide your defense party with extra buffs to help take on the D.O.E. and others that are trying to infiltrate the town.

The basic fort is a little cheaper and only covers an area, but there are different types that provide buffs for physical attacks for the set party, or even things like elemental attribute enhancement, so you can have your powerful mages guard the area.

It seems like there are many ways to go about your set up, so you can go with whichever one fits your needs and play-style, as long as you can manage to take out the big monster before they temporarily take away some of your facilities.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon will release in North America on April 7, 2015 for the Nintendo 3DS.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon Introduces A New Set Of Skills. February 11, 2015 . 4:02pm

In a preview for this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine, we get to see a few new screenshots along with some extra details on new skills.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon is a collaboration between two popular RPG series in Etrian Odyssey and Mystery Dungeon. In a preview for this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine, we get to see a few new screenshots along with some extra details on new skills.

The town of Aslaga is the base of adventures in Etrian Mystery Dungeon. It’s where you’ll rest up and plan ahead for your next trip to the dungeon. This is also where you meet the likes of Professor Sara and can check out Sara’s Labyrinth Lab.

There are plenty of other folks from town who’ll be there to help you like Magan, who hands out missions, along with places to eat or store your money and items. You can get a closer look of the Aslaga town in our earlier report.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon features regular skills that all characters can use, but they’ll also have access to a special ability called the “Blast Skill”. While not much is known about Blast Skills for now, they’re said to be highly useful, with skills like “Command All” and more.

The game also adds new D.O.E monsters that are kind of like the F.O.E in Etrian Odyssey, except they’re out to destroy the town of Aslaga, and it’ll be up to you to stop them using “fortresses” and various parties of your group.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon will release in North America on April 7, 2015 for the Nintendo 3DS.

With a little over a week until the release of Etrian Mystery Dungeon in Japan, Atlus have announced the game’s first batch of DLC.

With a little over a week until the release of Etrian Mystery Dungeon in Japan, Atlus have announced the game’s first batch of DLC, which will be free for the entire month of March. The official website shares more on what to expect from it.

The DLC will be free to commemorate the release of the game, and it’ll help those who aren’t too confident in taking on tough dungeons. Here’s the list of what it is:

EMD_03-19-15.jpg

The April 7 North American release of Etrian Mystery Dungeon will be followed with a month of free downloadable content, Atlus announced.
The content will be free until May 5, before reverting to paid downloadable content (prices indicated below).
Here are the first three add-on quests, which you can get from the NPC Niralda in the Amber Cafe:

  • Find a Landsknecht for me! Find the adventurous Landsknecht to unlock three new recipes for the Amber Restaurant! ($1.49)
The last two add-on quests are repeatable quests that players will also get from Niralda:

  • Know the Red Pookas? Slay a Red Pooka wandering around the dungeon to receive a Golden or White potion for extra experience! ($1.99)
  • Slay the Gold Guardian! Defeat an elusive Gold Guardian in the dungeon to receive a Nugget of Gold fragment for extra gold! ($1.49)

Wanderer Trailer

[YT]S__BoFGVb8Q[/YT]
Like to roam around around around around? Well then they should call you the Wanderer! Someone who never sheaths their sword and keeps ferrets and/or any other small animal friends hidden at all times. They’ve found that through being defeated over, and over, and over again, that survival is an absolute must. Thanks to expert studies at the school of hard knocks, they’ve learned to make their own escape route, because losing all your items in the mystery dungeons is akin to losing a part of your soul.
By the way, if you see the Wanderer with their bamboo hat tilted downward, don’t be confused. Wanderers just aren’t huge fans of talking. Maybe this is because they don’t have much to say. Or maybe they think that for some reason their ferret will do the talking for them. But you know what they ARE huge fans of? Clearing hidden paths and using skills targeted towards insects, plants, animals, and even dragons, that’s what! Oh, and rice balls. They’re fans of rice balls too.
