Variety reports that EuropaCorp is in pre-production on its next big English-language project, the 3D sci-fi action film Section 8.

Ireland's Stephen St. Leger and James Mather are attached to direct from a screenplay by St. Leger, Mather and EuropaCorp owner Luc Besson, who will also produce.

Section 8 takes place in a prison orbiting 50 miles above the earth. The prison houses 500 of the world's most dangerous prisoners, who are kept asleep by sophisticated techniques until they suddenly awaken.

The film, which starts shooting late spring/early summer, is budgeted at more than $30 million.

EuropaCorp is also focusing on Brick Mansion, the U.S. English-language remake of Pierre Morel's action-thriller District 13.

I have a feeling that this will be huge. What do you guys think?

It's such an unfortunate name. Of course they are going to be comparisons with District 9. However, it seems like a great idea I just hope they don't try to hollywoodise it.

Creativity + science fiction = epic win.

An American remake of District 13?

Well there any decent American or British le parkour/stunt men that are also decent actors? I mean part of the whole appeal of District 13 was it was those performers doing all their own **** without wires and stuff.

Sounds like a mix between Die Hard and Alien 3. Which could work actually. I'm in.

any updates on this? I wanna know

This just sounds like Avatar. "Let's take a bunch of plots from other movies, shove em together, put it in space, and it's new!"

i'm not a huge fan of EuropaCorp movies in general. Too stylized, and tries to hard to be 'hip' with fast cuts, pop music, and hammy acting.

How does it sounds like Avatar ? I could see a link with Minority Report with the sleepers prison but that's all.

Luc Besson+ his usual martial art action style + space= I'm going to watch it.

that's the thing, I love Luc besson...as a director. But when he produces, (yuck)

I really dig The Transporter(can't say much the sequels), and Taken is suck a badass FU letter to one liner action films of the 90s.

The name has been currently changed to LOCK OUT

Sounds really interesting to me, I will be on board for this I reaqlly like the sound of it.

What the hell are you two smoking?
I think he saw that bit at the end of the story.

But the reason it sounds like Avatar to me... is that it sounds like a bunch of old other movie ideas that have been thrown together into one movie and set... IN SPACE! Some of those other movies were even IN SPACE themselves.

You just explained the story for sooo many movies that have come out in the...oh I don't know, last 30 years.

I don't have a single problem with people not liking Avatar but it gets funny when people are still using this complaint for any and all other films as well.

Um. I liked Avatar... and I am just stating the obvious about this movie. Which sounds like Fortress 2 (space prison), No Escape (prisoners by themselves in isolated area), Demolition Man (collecting the worst of the worst into a special sleeping prison), and a side of Pandorum (the waking up and fighting over the ship).

And I know there's tons that I have forgot.

There's a difference between Avatar... and Avatar fanboys. I don't like the fanboys, but the movie was alright.

and then theres the difference between Avatar fanboys (aka just Scifi fans) and Avatards
