From this week's Entertainment Weekly:

Superman has returned. Batman has begun again too. Might we ever see these Super Friends share the screen? Count on it, true believers - but not in the flesh.

EW has learned that Warner Bros. is developing what could be the greatest spandex story ever told. The concept doesn't only involve the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight, but their cohorts in the Justice League of America, too. The animated movie - part of a larger superhero-related Warner media initiative - is likely to be based upon a famous comic saga. One possibility: an adaptation of Identity Crisis, a 2004 murder mystery smash written by novelist Brad Meltzer that could be used to launch the likes of Green Arrow and The Flash into their own films, 'toon or otherwise. One request: No Gleek, please.

I know the JL cartoon wasn't the most kid friendly of all sometimes, but wouldn't Identity Crisis be pushing it a little?

Are we sure they're not just talking about The New Frontier movie?

It'll probably be rated 18A in Canada or R in US like the Ultimate Avengers Film. I would watch it. But I would prefer an actual film with real people. Alex Ross had done these amazing movie posters that I thought could've worked.
Edit: Found em

I have this one^

I got confirmation. A JL movie is in the works. From what he's been hearing, it'll take place after Starcrossed, but befor JLU.

Hmm. A prequel to JLU. Its that project Timm and co. was trying to do for a while but was put on hold. From JL to JLU, something in me wants it to be like 52 where that built it from Infinite Crisis to One Year Later.

I wonder if it is.

EDIT:

From The Kingdom:

Today during a Bruce Timm retrospective at San Diego Comic Convention, Timm found himself in an awkward position - he was doing a look back on a career that isn't yet over. Throughout the presentation (which we'll have more coverage on shortly), he kept referencing a project that he was working on that he just couldn't say much about. Towards the end of the presentation, after being asked if he would do any more DCU work, he hemmed and hawed at length about it, being very non-commital. While he was doing this, a very familiar bloody Superman symbol came up on the giant screens to his right and left. That's right - it looks like Bruce Timm, the man responsible for the DCAU, is now working on an animated version of the Death of Superman story arc. No further word as of yet on if it will cover the Reign of the Superman, or if it will find release on television of DVD.

So........could it be a Death of Superman film instead?

i think they are, but apparently Timm is also working on a death of superman film! see comics continuum for the scoop.

Man, I just can't get enough of all these awesome DC projects announcements! I think they are finally adapting animated movies directly from the comics. Something tells me there are many projects in the works and it seems that they are targeted for an older audience.

I would be extremely excited if they were doing Identity Crisis.

Perhaps they got the wrong Crisis, CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS maybe?

Hmmm COIE would involve more characters than JLU, what would be the point? If you're focusing on the DCAU's Big 7, then a murder mystery along the lines of Identity Crisis becomes a lot more interesting, though, it would be interesting if the Death of Superman WAS the big JL movie event... that could be very interesting...
