Fantastic Four: First Steps General News & Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS)

Yeah, I'm probably most excited about Kirby - absolutely all upside there in my view. Pedro is great, I just need to see more before I can start thinking of him as Reed. I don't know enough about the other 2 to have a useful opinion.
Hopefully the leading actress' last name being Kirby is a good omen.

Yeah, throughout this whole process, Ebon MB is the one name that made me say “Yes!!”.

A lot of people were floating names of comedic actors, but while Ben definitely has a sense of humor, what really defines him is he’s something of an old-school streetwise tough-guy (with a hidden softer side).

I think EMB can definitely pull that off.
Put a little of 'Hi Bob' into his backstory ala For All Mankind and we're golden.

I wouldn't be concerned if it was a present day setting, either. Or even a 60s one if we had some indication Doom was going to be e central figure here, but all evidence is he won't be and it's a FF vs Galactus/Surfer movie without Doom. So I don't see where he fits into that tapestry, unfortunately
Fingers crossed that doesn't happen and they get him right. I'll have to join the crowd demanding Feige to step down if they drop the ball on Doom.

Well the only thing I can say about the casting right now is that those are all likeable actors, which for me is saying a lot. I can't stress enough how castings including Jared Leto or Jesse Eisenberg get on my nerves. Having one highly unlikeable lead is a huge *nope* for me.

If we get Bardem then Doom's potential just went even further up.
To be honest, as much as I like Javier Bardem, I would be a lot more pumped up if Jon Hamm was announced as Doom. That casting would be :ok:

I’d be very happy with him too. I can imagine him being up for the role if offered.

And Hamm has expressed his desire to play Doom in the MCU. If Krasinski can't be our Reed Richards, let Jon Hamm be Victor Von Doom. I can see Pascal and Hamm playing very well off each other, as well.

If Hugo Weaving wasn't already Red Skull (and didn't hate comic book movies) then I'd love him to play Doom. He managed to convey so much emotion from behind that V mask in V for Vendetta.

Oh, I didn’t realise he’d actually said that. That’s an even bigger plus in my book, always prefer it when a talented actor already shows they’re interested in a role even before they’re offered it.

I'm not one to typically have an opinion on how actors should look in these roles but I'm hoping Pascal goes clean shaven for Reed. If you look at a picture of him beardless, he does have a classic Mr. Fantastic look IMO.

Albeit, I'm guessing he'll keep the beard since he was drawn with it for that artwork.

Plenty of recent depictions of Reed in comics have been bearded. Heck, Krasinski had a beard in Multiverse of Madness.

Looks like Ben is reading a magazine with an MIT cover on it--I wonder if we'll see Howard Stark pop up in this?

Or any other scientists of that era -- Michael Douglas' Hank Pym, for example?
They really should at least reference them if they are covering this era. I’d be up for seeing both in cameos.

If they go with a 60’s setting, he’ll have to shave that awful beard. In the early 60’s, military vets and respectable scientists wouldn’t have had a beard like that.

I have no idea why he seems to like it so much. Maybe he doesn’t have any friends willing to tell him the truth.:nervous:

I dont know if they will. We might be looking at a parallel Earth

I'd honestly prefer this to Marvel trying retcon them into the 616. The world-building in the MCU has already become kind of shaky and nobody ever mentioning the FF (Hank, for example) is kind of immersion-breaking for me. They tried to do that with Captain Marvel and I honestly think it wasn't entirely successful.

I'd rather they not come from another universe. I feel there's ways they can retcon them into 616 without it seeming jarring. Like maybe the accident that gives them powers also transports them to somewhere else like the Negative Zone or something.

Guess there could be other versions of them in that Earth. Also, if they use this background for F4, wonder if that rules out using the multiverse as a way to introduce X-Men.

I think you could conceivably slot the Fantastic Four from the 60s—we haven’t really touched on that yet in the MCU, right?

In their first movie, they (& maybe Doom?) are transported into the multiverse, disappearing from public eye. The spend the next 60 years exploring the multiverse (or they’re “stuck” somewhere)— maybe there’s some quantum time dilation to explain away why they didn’t age.

Post-credit or end teaser has them arriving back on MCU proper. “We did it. We’re home.”

If Doom’s traveling the multiverse too, maybe he comes back to the MCU having mastered sorcery and Negative Zone technologies. He reclaims Sokovia as Latvera in Captain America: Brave New World, and tries to manipulate the Sentry in Thunderbolts. Reed & Doom get their rematch at the end of Secret Wars: Pt. 2.

- Avengers vs. X-Men (incursion with Fox Universe, somehow building from Deadpool 3)
- Avengers: Secret Wars Pt I (ft. Legacy Marvel superheroes like Hugh Jackman, Tobey Maguire, etc.)
- Avengers: Secret Wars Pt. II (ft. OG Avengers)

The Krasinski thing was just bafflingly dumb. Either make that a different character or maybe use Ioan Gruffud there. Making that Krasinski was too inside baseball and just confused most of your audience
Do you know a person or people that were confused? If so what did they say about it? I'm just not getting why anyone would be confused. Seems to me to the general audience he'd just be another new character.
