Fantastic Four Movies Apperication Thread

Love? I won't quite give that. I don't think either were particularly good movies, but they were decent enough FF movies. FF is probably a hard one to tackle in the first place.

I'm sorry. Everything about these movies was bad.

There's not really any getting around that.

I actually like the 2nd one. I won't say I love it, but I do like it. I appreciate the steps they started to make in the right direction, as well as the far bigger scope... showing other planets, multiple environments, the destruction of the Great Wall... that sort of stuff they nailed. Ben and Johnny were done great. The Fantasticar was awesome. Norrin was awesome. I am the firmest believer that the cloud was NOT Galactus, so that didn't kill the film for me.

Could it have been a lot better? Sure. Would they have nailed the scope of an FF film by doing something more along the lines of Mole Man and giant monsters? Sure.

But, it was a much larger film in terms of scope and adventure, and Doom took huge steps toward being corrected, which meant a lot.

It was a really vibrant film, cinematically, too. Ben's costume was vastly improved, Reed acted far more like Reed, the comedy was done mostly faithful to the comics, and so on and so on.

For what are it's flaws, which are absolutely there... I wouldn't shun this film any more than I'd cancel my FF subscription for a couple issues worth of Millar devastating the characters or a bad artist handling the pages.

Matter of fact, I'm going to go watch it now.

I even bought it twice! DVD and then Blu Ray.

Iron Man quality? Nope.

Boring as Ang Lee's Hulk? Anyone who says so is probably lying. :oldrazz:

Despite all the flaws, I thought that Evans and Chiklis were great as Johnny and Ben.

Hmmm slow start for me this movie - the second one that is.

Number one felt like it moved very slowly for an anti-climatic fight at the end.

Number two even more so but the saving grace was the surfer.

He was the best thing about all 2 movies. Doom was a little better in number 2 also.

I think the first one is a decent comic book movie. The chemistry between Evans and Chiklis is perfect. I think a lot of the negativity for the first one stems for the diabolically crap second one. It's unfair really.

I do not think so.

The first movie simply set the bar - not very high but it did set it. For me number two only got by because of SS. Oh lol at Galactus cloud.

Hmmm I agree with you to an extent. But I think when someone mentions the FF movies most of the time the reaction would be "Ohh the second one was crap!". There's rarely any mention of the first one, it just get's unfairly paired with the piece of tripe that was the second one IMO. Even I felt like that after I saw ROTSS, but then I watched FF the other day and I realized that it is in fact a pretty decent movie.

I enjoyed both movies but for different reasons - as I said Surfer was the only reason to keep watching that and mor Alba nudity.

I wanted to see Dr Doom in the first one, but that got side tracked a bit. By the time he appears fully he gets beaten and its over. So glad he was back in number two.

I find the 2nd movie better but only because of The Surfer, but even then they nearly ruined him by making his board to source of his power. That was an idiotic decision.

Well there is no way that film was going to touch the power cosmic!

Way too hard to explain - also no where was the great nullifier. lol

Galactus was a cloud.

Yep it was watered down a lot to fit on the big screen.... which is why it fails on many levels but hey as we say ......

SS rides on!

Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis were the perfect Human torch and The Thing. Grufford was passable as Mr. Fantastic. The effects were ok especially Torch's and Thing's. Silver Surfer was done nicely as well.

Thats all the nice things I can say about it

cloud

NEVER FORGET

You know, there's no proof that that cloud was Galatus. We never actually saw him.

I dont think they had to touch the power cosmic, they could have just explained that the Surfer's power comes from an 'external source' and they find a way to cut off the power from the external source. Then at the end, or towards it, we would find out what this external source was.

Yeah I know we did not see him but the cloud was named in the movie as galatus.

The shadow on Jupiter though looked a little like his head - which was nice.

Yeah could have should have would have. lol

You guys were not paying attention, they clearly show the firey silouette of Galactus in the storm! In fact they show it twice! The scene in the end when the Surfer is going to destroy Galactus, that's when you see it.

I disagree about the second film, it was a vast improvement over the first one! I thought it perfectly caught the dynamics of the FF. My only complaint is they don't show how truly strong the Thing is.

Tim Story did a very good job, now they need to bring on the Inhumans or the Black Panther!

He speaks truth unfortunately

agreed

disagree

Inhumans could/should get their own movie

Think of a movie with a futuristic look and a period piece feel. Kinda like Dune

They could do a 20,000 LEagues Under the Sea style, where a group of adventurers find Attilan, or like a civil war type scenario with Black Bolt and his brother.

I like Tim Story as a director, I'm sure he did what he could as far as that goes, but number one, he had no clout at Fox, and number two....he was working with Fox.

I disagree. I didn't see the first film, but my non comic fan brother did. He was really excited, but when he came back he said it was a piece of crap. He got excited again for the second film because of Silver Surfer. He saw it and called it a piece of crap too. Most people I know felt the same way, but almost all of them prefer the second film simply because of the Silver Surfer. I saw the second one myself eventually and I thought it was alright but the main reason I liked it at all was the Silver Surfer. Just like everyone I know.

They completely bombed the villains in both films though. I was hopeful with Dr. Doom being improved in the second one because the opening scenes with him in Latveria felt very Doom-esque. Everything after that went downhill. As for Galactus, if he is in that giant cloud, I never saw him in the film and I barely see him in those screen shots. Even if he is in there, the way most people saw him was as a giant cloud. He didn't display himself as anything with any personality or anything, so no matter how you slice it he's a disappointing villain. Almost as bad as the wimpy Dr. Doom.

But I agree that Johnny and Ben were pulled off pretty well. Reed was alright, but Alba was horribly miscast as Sue. I never bothered to see the first film and I heard they cause more destruction then they prevent in that one so I can't bank too munch on their likability though. One think I do like is how unlike the X-Men films the Fantastic Four felt more like an actual team. The X-Men films are way better of course, but the FF films got that part right at least.
