Favourite Arcs of All Time

I guess you never read superhero comics before the advent of postmodernism. :(

I guess you never read superhero comics before the advent of postmodernism. :(

Comics becoming more mature and sophisticated in their storytelling is what got me into (most) comic books to begin with. The only exception I can think of is Spider-Man, which I've been reading since I was young.

Kraven's Last Hunt
Original Venom story{ASM#300}
Current Captain America run
Coming Home
The devil in Cell block d
Kitchen Irish

To name just a few

Eh, it just seems silly to me to read superhero comics in the first place without expecting a fair bit of camp. Regardless of how mature the storytelling gets, these are still grown men and women running around in skintight costumes, solving a great many of their problems with violence. But, hey, different strokes for different folks. :)

captain britains fury/mad jim jaspers story by alan moore and alan davis
the current cap arc
daredevil - born again
the spiderman clone saga...(i miss ben reilly!)
avengers - the red zone
union jack mini arc (the 1st one with joey and the baroness)

Thanks for your opinions, I'll google the arc names and see what issues they were in.

The reason why I'm asking this is because I'm seriously considering subscribing to Marvel's online digital comics database, and considering there is thousands upon thousands available to read, and limited time(unless I want to became a hermit), I figured the best course of action would be to ask veteran comic fans what the cream of the crop was in terms of storylines.

I'm sure there isn't a lack of horrible stories along the way, so I needed your critical taste to filter out the good ones, and keep them coming please.
Up to this point the only one I had my mind set to reading was the Kree-Skrull war in order to better enjoy Secret Invasion, but hell, it didn't even come up yet!

I guess Avengers Forever.

Ultron Unlimited is a damn good choice too though.

S**t, I forgot about Avengers Forever. That was pretty awesome too.

Blood of Apocalypse.

Seriously, though:

Amazing Spider-Man: The Life and Death of Spiders
Captain America: Winter Soldier
Daredevil: Born Again
Daredevil: Underboss/Out
Marvels
The Punisher: Welcome Back, Frank
Ultimates 1 & 2
Ultimate X-Men: The Tomorrow People, World Tour, and Return of the King
X-Men: Days of Future Past
X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills
X-Men: Inferno

Welcome Back, Frank was so awesome. I'm actually wondering if they had Ennis lined up already and just staged that awful "angel of vengeance" or whatever Punisher take to make Welcome Back, Frank seem even more awesome by comparison.

In no particular order:

Cap Quits (and replaced by John Walker)
Acts of Vengeance
Inferno
Spider-Man Black Costume Saga (with all the Hobgoblin stuff in between)
X-Men in Australia
Daredevil - Guardian Devil

They really ought to release an Acts of Vengeance hardcover. Especially now that Loki and Thor are rising to prominence within the Marvel universe again.

Yeah that is a bit bizarre that Acts has never seen the light of day as a hardcover. Every other major Marvel event has. I wonder what else is out there that hasn't been reprinted, hmmmm....

That was a fun game. Still, Acts of Vengeance deserved, like, 5 trades before Maximum Carnage.

Peter David's Gray Hulk saga through his merged Hulk saga.

The Todd McFarlane issues were so awesome when mixed with David's great writing. I love it when Rick is commenting about Hulk taking out several Mandroids (I think they were Mandroids, it's been awhile). Hulk pulls one into the ground and Rick's voiceover says something like "He's gotten sneaky" as parts of the armor is tossed out of the hole.

Depends.

Think that guy's wrestled much?

Just with latent homosexual tendencies.

Hiyo!

Oh, another of my favorite "arcs" (more a run) is Thor vol. 2 from the death of Odin through the "Spiral" arc. Fantastic work by Dan Jurgens. The only drawback to it is the revolving door of artists, but at least most of those artists were good.

Death of Gwen Stacey comes to mind...

I also remembering the Arc where Black cat nearly dies, and Spidey Rip's Doc Ock's arms off... That was good.

Several of my other favorites have already been mentioned.

Fatal Attractions for the Xmen is one I'll always think of as a very good arc. Lots of stuff happened (later of course to all be un-done) and great art.

Morrison on X-men.

He had so many great/epic ideas ... most worked, a few just fell short.

Cassandra Nova, Sublime, Xorn ... great stuff.

Hmm, not sure f the exact order, but some
arcs that are my favorates are...

Spider-Man: The Child Within
Spider-Man: Death of Gwen and Norman
Spider-Man: The Clone Saga
X-Men: Fatal Attractions
X-Men: Xorn/Planet X (Morrison's run was alright, but I loved this arc and all things Xorn from his run)
Captain America: The New Deal

I guess the Ultron Unlimited arc.

That's the run that popped in to my head first! Ultron Unlimited was amazing.

X-Men: Days of Future Past

Joss Whedon's first 12 issue arc of Astonishing X-Men (Gifted?)

(John Byrne's Fantastic Four run is my favorite long term run.)

Galactus Falls/Nova Arc
Three Against Doomsday
Trial of Reed Richards
