Ok I used to be a pretty keen reader of Ultimate X Men, up untill around the introduction of the Hellfire club. I recently got back into it with the last trade, Magnetic North.
Can anyone outline the story arcs that have happened since, and your opinions on them? I remember one issue that seemed interesting, where sabertooth had somehow recovered from decapitation and was claiming to be wolverine's son. What arc was that?
I have the issue but I don't really feel like going though all my comics to find it, but he was just saying that to get into Logans head. He went back and told the guy he was working for what he told Logan. Something like that I believe.

Just been rereading Blockbuster and New Mutants and this is some pretty good stuff. That was Bendis's run...Everything after that is pretty meh. It's not good, it's not bad, it's just worth the price.

The Hellfire Club is the fourth trade, so you've missed a lot.
By Mark Millar
5. Ultimate War--The X-Men fight the Ultimates. It's been over a year since I read it so I don't remember why. Pretty good.
6. Return of the King--Magneto is back and has a globe-threatening plot. Again, I don't totally remember this book's plot but it was great. One of my 3 favorite Ultimate X-Men books (along with #1 and #3).
By Brian Michael Bendis
7. Blockbuster--Wolverine teams up with Daredevil and Spider-Man. Entertaining, but not as good as other Bendis stuff.
8. New Mutants--The X-Men face competition from Emma Frost's Academy of Tomorrow. An X-Man is killed. Again, entertaining but not great.
By Brian K. Vaughan
9. The Tempest--The X-Men fight Sinister. The writing is good but I don't like the way Sinister was done.
10. Cry Wolf--The X-Men encounter Gambit and battle Fenris. Teh team gets divided up some in the end. Good.
11. The Most Dangerous Game--Longshot is accused of murder and the X-Men investigate. This and Magnetic North are favorite UXM books form Vaughan's run.
12. Hard Lessons--This book has three stories in it and I've only read two. One is about Xavier foiling a bank robbery. It's decent. One is about gambit and Rogue fighting Juggernaut. It's cool. The other has something to do with Wolverine, Storm, and Lady Deathstrike but I haven't read it.
And you've read Magnetic North.
By Robert Kirkman
14. Pheonix?--contains the "Date Night" story, in which all the X-Men endure different events on the same night. It's pretty good. Also contains the "Pheonix?" story, which is about Jean possibly being the reincarnation of the Church of the Shi'ar's god, the Pheonix. Also pretty good.
15. Magician--A new member, Magician, joins. But he's not what he seems. It was pretty good, but I didn't like how it ended. This trade also contains Annual #2, in which Nightcrawler goes insane. It's weird. I'm not sure whether I liked it or not.
The current arc is called Cable and is about Cable coming form the future to kill Xavier.

It seems I read for longer than I thought I did... I have Ultimate war, and really liked it, and don't see why people complained. I really dug return of the king as well. I loved most of millar's run, but I don't like the hellfire club, so maybe thats why I thought I quit then. I didn't think blockbuster was too good though.
I think the ultimate cable thing sounds pretty neat. I thought it was silly how it was bashed before it was finished, as soon as people found out the twist. At least see how it plays out ya know?

It's not so much that the story was bad, but the art was downright terrible in some places, and quite a few power levels were in flux, particularly Colossus' if I remember it as well as I think I do.
If you're gonna start buying the back trades, find a copy of the UXM discs instead. I know, I know, they don't look as pretty up on a bookcase, but it saves you about $200 and that's gotta count for something. The only problem is that they're quite obviously scanned in some places, and include ads.
Really now? I dug it. His dialogue always seems to have a better flow to it than anybody else's. Especially Millar who just loves catchphrases (meatball). I especialy liked more extended scenes like Wolverine's talk with Black Widow and the talk between all those military guys in the white house. Wolverine and Daredevil also have some great moments.
