FCC fines Univision for lack of children's programming

The FCC does set down some necessary guidelines, but these days, they're just going way to far with this crap.

And what are "necessary guidelines"? Their "fight" against "indecency"?

You don't need the FCC for that. You just need this

The FCC is nothing more than a relic of simpler times. The industry it "regulates" has outgrown the need of it.

Since when does a television station get fined for lack of children's programming. What kid watches Univision?

There's this little thing called freedom of speech, if you don't like what they're showing then change the channel.
Telemundo and Univison are stupid channels anyways.

Kiritsh- you forget that the people who whine to the FCC when they see or hear something that makes them "uncomfortable" (read: turns them on), lack the brain capacity to operate the remote control.

Some of these idiots have children and rely on the TV to babysit their kids, instead of actually being a part of their kids' life.

It's kinda ironic and hypocritical that the group that typically wants "smaller government" (conservatives) has no problem with a government body that regulates broadcast television and terrestrial radio.

You're right, we have to think of the children.

When I think of kids, I think "How much would a Nike sweatshop in Southeast Asia pay me for my kid if I ever become a parent"

What is next fining Spike or Lifetime for the same thing.

*sigh*

The FCC's reach only extends as far as non-cable broadcast television. Cable/satellite networks are not controlled by the FCC in any way. In fact, they are self-regulated, and typically censor themselves simply for the sake of keeping their advertisers (which is how all TV networks make money). That's why Comedy Central censors their shows 99% of the time, but airs the unbleeped "Secret Stash" movies every Saturday night.

Correct, because with cable/satellite, the customer pays for the ability to have it in their home. If you no longer want it, then you cancel your account or stop paying your bill.

Same with satellite radio
