Fifty Shades Darker

I'm taking a girl I'm seeing to watch it on Valentine's Day, she's a huge fan of the book series. I'm looking at the big picture and swigging some good ol Jack to get through it.

I think he and maybe his agent were thinking that it's great for exposure.

The problem is the recovery time afterwards. Kristen Stewart has been finally evolved as an actress but it took her 3-4 years to do so. But it's a challenging course of reinventing herself, which can be learning curve.

Meanwhile, that Wolf Boy's career may not ever succeed past his scuusful run with Twilight.

So with our two leads, it's so uncertain...
Did Stewart really struggle? She still got roles and was doing the indy stuff actors love to do after making the big bucks off the franchise flicks.

Well her reputation as an actress amongst the general public certainly did. No matter how many acclaimed/praised indie films she does, or how many awards she wins/is nominated for, lots of people still only judge her from Twilight.

she got what she deserves starring in that film. you can say it's a job and you will sometime be hired for lousy job before finding better one. but you have option to pass on it and find better one than take crap one. I certainly wouldnt want on my resume, I started as toilet cleaner. You can do better than that. Regardless of what you do later or how succesful you become later, you will always have it there.

Does Dakota get nekkid in this movie or not? That is pretty much the only important factor here.

Which I guess would matter if she wasn't being cast. But she was, and like with most actresses some quality, some blah, but plenty of work. She made a ton of money and could go for roles she wanted.

A lot more than getting naked. There's scenes involving Ben Wa Balls and a spreader bar.

Kristen doesn't deserve ire for taking the job, she deserves ire for performing horribly and acting Like a *****e.
As for 50 Shades, it had made me appreciate Twilight a lot more.

Surprised this one is doing so well, considering it only got a 9% at RT. $147 million worldwide so far on a budget of $55 million.

Domestically, it opened at a little more than half of what the first film made on its opening weekend, and it came in second at the box office to boot. Not that impressive.

Yeah it definitely looks like it's going to pale in comparison to it's predecessor. Which is fitting because it's a far worse movie (and that's saying something).

It's also a very gimmicky franchise in that you only really need to watch the first one to get the gist of the whole thing.

"Creepy male *****e characters."

"No real plot of tension to speak of."

"Future serial killer being creepy yet were supposed to see it as romantic."

"Sex scenes that aren't all that impressive or erotic."

"Actors who clearly just want to get out of there as quickly as possible."

"Rinse and repeat."

Yep, that pretty much covers it.

Even if RT was 0% then it would still make the same amount of money, the audience for this franchise never cares about critical reception anyway.

What is impressive is that the 55M budget is reportedly for both 50S Darker and 50S Freed, which has already been filmed and will be released next year V-Day. So that means less than 30M budget for this one.

Numbers for tomorrow and Tuesday will be very good, considering V-day weekend inflated the first film's OW quite a bit (which translates to its big 2nd weekend drop and 2nd film's bigger than usual drop).

Yeah its really not. The budget and the profit that they could get from this is impressive. But the first one was really popular, and it looks like majority of its audience didn't return to watch the sequel... Well at least during its opening weekend.

It'll get a bump for Valentine's Day, but I think it's done after that.

Half of what it made during it's first opening? Wonder what happened.

Doesn't really matter. The film only cost $55 million, and it's already raking in money. Low pressure since it costs a fraction of Batman v Superman.

Speaking of rinse and repeat, there is a third film planned, right?

It must be extremely disheartening for Kim Basinger that her career has essentially all come down to this:
At its heart, Fifty Shades is pure, melodramatic soap opera trash, and the final confrontation between Ana and Christian's first lover, Elena (Kim Basinger), proves that.

Throughout the movie she insists that Ana needs to let Christian go and find someone else, so when she finds out they're getting married, she has some choice words for Ana.

Cue Ana getting fed up of her ***** and throwing a glass of wine in her face, before Christian's mother (Marcia Gay Harden) tells Elena to leave, and slaps her around the face for good measure. Christian delivers the killing blow by telling her, "You may have taught me how to *****, but [Ana] taught me how to love." Classic.

A Stinger, thats funny.
This scene no doubt sets up the endless Fifty Shades shared universe.

Have Kim Basinger's character from 9 and 1/2 Weeks show up for extra meta goodness.
