Films School Rejects, a very decent movie review site, recently polled its own writers as well as writers from around the net and a few filmmakers as to their personal lists of the 10 "Best" (purposefully vague as to the meaning) Films. They did this as sort of a play on and in anticipation of Screen and Sounds more prestigious poll of critics and filmmakers that is published every 10 years.
The ultimate aggregate of the the 34 submitted lists is actually not that bad, not exactly what you would expect from "The Best Movies According to the Internet"

The List
Citizen Kane (73 points)
Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (61)
The Godfather (57)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (53)
Casablanca (48)
8 1/2 (44)
Back to the Future (44)
2001: A Space Odyssey (43)
Bicycle Thieves (41)
Vertigo (40)
A list of very good films. Its interesting to see some of the tastes of mid thirties bloggers reflected, especially with Back to the Future. Others, like Citizen Kane, seem to have their position simply because they are expected to.
That said looking at some of the individual lists, which FSR includes, it is strange to me how highly Fight Club is regarded. Am I the only one with a growing distaste for Fight Club? I mean I think its pretty well made, and I appreciate it for the fact that it pretty much could not exist in its current form if made today, but very little of it resonates with me anymore. I think the film ultimately undersells or misses its own point and instead revels too much in Durden's really quite half baked ideas. Sorry for the odd aside, just again, strange to see it so high up on people's lists.
Also, I know it's just a matter of opinion, and the lists were personal bests, but it's kind of nuts to see the guy from Screenrant include the Avengers on a list of the top 10 films ever made.
Ultimately, what do you all think of the list?
What parts of the list do you think will be reflected in Screen and Sound's list when it is published this year?
10 years ago, the newest film on that list was from 1976. It will be interesting to see if that time window shifts at all. Empire might have a shot.
