Looks interesting enough. Looks to scratch my Buffy itch since I am confident that Girl in the Woods is cancelled. Sadly, the CG monsters don't look great.

But hey, Elizabeth Mitchell as queen vampire, sold.

Half way through the season, and I wouldn't exactly call it a great series. I do enjoy it.Sarah Catherine Hook is adorable as the lead. A bit more practical effects than the trailer showed. Though, still some shady looking CG in parts. The central romance is a bit rough start, as it feels a bit one sided in the early episodes. Still, I'm finding the lore interesting, and the two families are great, especially the two moms. And Juliette's siblings are great, though Cal's brothers haven't gotten too much yet.

Having finished this, it definitely isn't prestige or appointment television. But it is cute and cheesy. The central romance definitely gets better in the second half, as we start getting a lot more of the chemistry of the leads. Some weird world building, as it shifted from implying that the public was ignorant of monsters, to them being more well known, if not commonly seen.

Still, I enjoyed it. I am loving the families, and their various dynamics, and their conflicts with those outside the families. The leads are fun, but Elizabeth Mitchell and Aubin Wise are very, very enjoyable in this. This will definitely fill my need for a teenage monster themed show. And hey, they fix some of the issues various other human/vampire romances have, ie the age difference.

Still, if you cannot find amusement in scenes like this,

it won't be for you.

Aubin Wise for Storm.

I watched the first episode. I would define this show as a queer vampire Romeo & Juliet. The leads are pretty good but I’m not sure I’ll watch the rest. It just has a very “young adult novel adaptation,” which is not a genre I’m a fan of. Still, it’s great to see a show of that genre where the queerness is front and center and not relegated to a best friend character (even though the best friend is also queer too haha).

Well that was quick

Not that quick and unfortunately not that unexpected. If it doesn't do huge numbers immediately then it doesn't stand a good chance at another season.

So much for streaming being the home of shows that get a chance to build their audience instead of dying a quick death like they were network if their viewer numbers are not through the roof the first week.

It doesn't make sense to me. It seemed to have been doing well, considering it released 2 weeks before Stranger Things. But, I guess they feel the $5 is best spent elsewhere.
