First Screenshot of Tomb Raider: Anniversary Edition!

Well, me and my impatient self didn't feel like waiting anymore for the game...so I decided to download the soundtrack! :whatever: :D I'm listening to all the tracks now and they're all so epic! Troels has outdone himself; it's way better than Legend's soundtrack and that one was awesome! He definitely deserves another Bafta!

Yes, the music in this game is better than what you hear in most movies these days.

Is there any tentative release date for 360? I'm anxious to play Lara Croft (wow, never thought I'd say that after Tomb Raider III again.)

After Tomb Raider III they sucked. Legends was fun though...

That's unfortunate that you thought they sucked. :( I hold TR4 second best right after TR2. I think the only bad TRs were Chronicles and AoD. I even used the level skip cheat to get past the Kurtis levels in AoD. :o

You know I actually rather liked the idea of someone else other than Lara as playable in Tomb Raider. :o

Eh, that seems kind of wrong to me, unless you're playing as her parents in a flashback. That would be the most awesomest awesome thing a Tomb Raider developer could do, as far as I'm concerned.

Regarding the quality of the games, I thought Tomb Raider I through III and Legends were great. The rest I just couldn't get into. The controls were overly complex and hard to use, and good controls are paramount in a game like Tomb Raider.

I don't...:p

The controls are the same for TRs 1-5, it's only TR6(AoD) that has the sucky controls.

man I never played AOD and Im glad I didnt after hearing all the horrible tales of that game. IA with those that said that TR1-3 were the best of the original TR series. I lost interest after the third game

IMO, AoD is a great game...once you get past the clunky controls and city levels...and if you have patience for the Kurtis levels. :o All of the Tomb/Ancient levels with Lara are great, but the rest are pretty boring though. AoD has a lot of positives like the story, music and some puzzles and levels, which are unfortunately outweighed by its negatives. :( I think you should at least give AoD a try or if you don't wanna actually play it, just play the iDVD. It may prove useful for TR8 which will be connected to TR:A, AoD(won't play a big part, but some things will probably make more sense if you've played it) and Legend(obviously...).

And it's a shame that most people didn't get to experience TR4, which IMO is the second best TR after TR2.

whats the iDVD?

As for TR4, when it came out, I actually didnt care for the setting or level design. TR3 was the high point of the series for me and Legends saved the franchise

I'd argue that Tomb Raider has had sucky controls ever since an alternative (camera relative analog) became availible. That's why TRL was such a breath of fresh air to me. I the last Tomb Raider I'd actually enjoyed was Tomb Raider 2 before that.

Yeah, that was my problem. After playing games with more intuitive controls than TR's, going back to the same old control scheme for TR was just awkward and crappy. It's like trying to go back to one of those old games where you could only move forward and backward and rotate your character after playing games that take advantage of the dual analog control scheme. Then AoD came along and it was even worse. But TRL and TRA have gotten me excited for Tomb Raider again, so I might go back and try to tough it out with those old controls so I can see how the games progressed. I kind of wish Crystal Dynamics would just remake the whole series, though.

Finally!! I got the damn game!!! A month later, and I finally have it. One month! I had to buy Anniversary while I was in Florida! Stupid Brooklyn stores for breaking my record of buying every 'Tomb Raider'(since TR4) on the first day! :cmad: I saw a Target while we were driving to a theme park, so I told my friends to stop and let me run in and get something real quick. They had it so I bought it! Got the PS2 version 'cause I didn't feel like running around to look for the PC version, plus I didn't wanna go through the hassle of installing and stuff.

Those stupid stores in Brooklyn probably still don't have it. :whatever:

Anyway, I just finished the game about a half hour ago and it was amazing! Definitely in my top 3 TRs! The graphics are phenomenal! I'm so impressed that CD made the game look this good on the PS2! But, the framerate hitches and jaggies bothered me a bit. Hopefully the 360 version will look better! :woot: My total playtime is around 10 hours and something minutes. I was actually kinda surprised that I finished it so quickly, I thought it would've been a 12-16 hour experience like some people at TRF have said. =/ I finished most levels in less than an hour, the only ones that took me an hour+ were St. Francis Folly, Tomb of Tihocan, All of Egypt and Natla's Mines(:O). But, I was not disappointed with the length at all, it felt longer than it actually was. And it probably would've been 11 hours if the auto-save hadn't have ****ed up and made me replay the entire St. Francis Folly! :cmad: I was in Damocles' room when I shut off the PS2 'cause I was tired, then when I turned it back on, it took me to the beginning of the level! ****! I didn't mind replaying it though, I was just ****ed that the game didn't auto-save like it was supposed to.

I'm not gonna write an entire review so I'll just sum up everything in a few sentences. TR:A is probably the best Tomb Raider in years, better than Chronicles, AoD & Legend and right up there with TRs 1-4! The only few things that disappointed me were 'The Coliseum'(looked gorgeous but was so short, empty and boring. The wonderful music was the only thing that kept me interested), simplified 'Palace Midas'(not the lead bar rooms, those were excellent ), the Valley in 'The Lost Valley', extremely short and chopped Lost Island levels(I liked these levels, but they did disappoint), the parts cut from City of Vilcabamba(didn't mind the block puzzle being removed from Tomb of Qualopec), The Cistern(this level was good, but I would've preferred if they kept the side rooms and key hunting from the original) and Tomb of Tihocan(I liked this level in the original even though not many did and I was disappointed that it was cut). That's pretty much it..

BTW, Natla looked absolutely gorgeous on the PS2(talking 'bout her Atlantean form)!!! Waayyyyy better than what I've seen on PC(see my sig for a video of her on PC)! She's got this slick, shiny, smooth sheen that I haven't seen in any videos of the PC version. Plus, her eyes are actually fiery and not just red dots!! She looks amazing! :wow: :woot:

Hey, do I get the Ps2 version so I can play now, or is the 360 version worth getting?

All versions of TR:A are out, so you don't have to get one version to play it right now. That being said, you should definitely get the 360 version. It's easily the best-looking one(colors, lighting, shadows and water effects have all been improved) and it's cheap, plus the achievements are great(some are a bit hard to get, though).

Oh I meant it because I won't have a 360 until next month and I own a Ps2, but it's cool, I'll still wait and get the 360 version.
I can't wait :(

So wait, the framerate is not bad, is it?

I've had no problems at all because I'm only on SD(:(), but I hear that it can hitch at times when running in 720p, but runs smooth in 1080i. I've heard mixed reports all over TR forums, tbh...but most of them say that when it does hitch, it's only minor.
