Played by Ms. Pugh Pugh herself.

Hopefully Yelena remains in full passive-aggressive snarky form, vis a vis her boss Val. She's no paragon, but when Bucky goes "We should rebel against Val, because its the right thing to do", Yelena should be going "I don't *really* care all that much about right-thing-to-do, but Val is an *******, so I'm in". *ahem*

I can't wait for a scene where Kate and Yelena have a stimulating naked conversation about philosophy in armchairs. :o

I don't think Kamala will recruit her, or anyone in this Thunderbolts group - for Kate and Yelena to later interact, but who knows.

Yelena was already top tier among new Multiverse saga characters but Thunderbolts put her firmly at the top for me. Hopefully they make her one of the central characters going forwards into Doomsday and Secret Wars.

I find her as a secondary character that somehow got a lead role in a movie. I'm not sure if its because of Florence Pugh's star power or Marvel Studios wanting to have another female lead in their movies. Brie Larson, Gemma Chan and Letitia Wright are the only actresses to get the top billing in the previous MCU movies iirc.

With Anthony Mackie's Falcon upgrade to a lead role, it is understandable why he become a lead character, after being a supporting character for 4 films, because of the comics. Yelena though? I don't think I have even seen Yelena in any comic book covers. In terms of other female characters from the comics, there are definitely more deserving characters for the lead film role like Invisible Woman, Storm, Jean, Rogue and Scarlet Witch who have been in this franchise much longer.

Long term, I'm not sure how the character would stand out against bigger and more important Marvel characters.

You're acting as if she got a solo film. She was a lead in a team movie. That doesnt take away from Sue, Storm, or any of them..Jean was the female lead in the X films. Sue is rumored to be the de facto lead in the FF film. Scarlet Witch literally had her own tv show. How have they been wronged by Yelena leading this film?

The movie could have been called "Yelena*". This is basically Marvel's Birds of Prey and the Emancipation of One Harley Quinn.

Its definitely an odd choice. If someone told you, post Endgame, Yelena would have been a lead of a MCU movie in 2025, would you believe them?

Its not even close. Yelena wasnt THAT MUCH of a main character.

Does it matter if we thought she'd lead a MCU film or not? Florence is great. Yelena is great. The movie was great. Nothing suffered from her taking the lead.

Of course I would have believed them; one of the main objectives was Black Widow was to set up Yelena as Natasha’s replacement in the MCU.

Yelena was the standout of the movie and one of the best, if not the best character introduced in the multiverse saga. Even though it was a team movies she took the central role as the lead and was the driving force along with Bob.

She is probably the most beloved & developed character introduced after Endgame and dare to say a better Widow.

Going into Doomsday we needed characters that people grow to care and feel like she's the one. A lot of the new characters have not been developed as well.

A Disney+ show was probably more believable at that time.

Bucky's role here isn't an upgrade in this movie. If he had as much role as Yelena, Sebastian would have billed first and put in the center in posters.

She is that much of a main character. See her interaction with Red Guardian, Bob/Sentry/Void and Valentina.

Its definitely an odd choice, as Yelena isn't a big Marvel Comics character, not even a B-tier like Shang-Chi, Moon Knight and She-Hulk. In the Mcu, she started as a supporting character, with her 2nd appearance in a streaming show - both were in 2021.

Love Florence. Love Yelena. :hrt:

She's quickly becoming my favorite MCU female.

So far she's the only new Multiverse Saga hero to even appear in two movies, which is wild. Well her and Red Guardian, as sort of a package deal.

Wild to think Ant-Man had 2 movies by this point. But also progress since Natasha didn't get a movie until she died.

Oh I haven't realized that.

Yelena/Red Guardian - 2
Shang-Chi - 1
All the Eternals - 1
America - 1
The Professor/Mr. Fantastic/Black Bolt - 1
Clea/Hercules/Phylla - 1 (not really heroes in the movies, but in the comics)
Ironheart - 1
Adam - 1
Kamala - 1
Gambit/Deadpool/the Wolverine/Elektra/X-23/Human Torch/Blade - 1
Joaquin - 1
Walker - 1

Human Torch and Mr. Fantastic are next but through a different actor.

Honestly it feels like they put more work reestablishing Daredevil than their movie characters.

Yeah as much as I love Daredevil it kind of feels like giving food to the rich while the poor starve.

She was also in the Hawkeye D+ series for three episodes.
