Foods or dishes from your "culture" (if any) you can't stand

It varies, as many of these things could have ties to multiple origins, but if there is a food or a meal that your family traditionally makes, or something that is pretty well known in your own culture, that you literally dry heave at the thought of having to eat, what say you? My granny used to cook all the classic "soul food" meals, which were not too shabby, but the one thing she made was fried okra, which turns my stomach to this day. The smell alone I can't stand, and tasting it....nah. :csad:
 
When it comes to typical southern style cuisine, I'm all about it :up:


My mom has never fried a chicken in my life...I am very ashamed :csad:
 
I'm southern and grew up around women who could fry the hell out a chicken, but I can't fry one to save my life, every attempt has failed so far. :(
 
Im of Irish descent and dont drink beer.
But thats a bit skewed, because Ive never tried it.
 
I'm iffy on Durian... It tastes sweet but the smell makes you high (in a bad way)
 
My father grew up in Pennsylvania and both sides of his family are of German lineage. That being the case, german dishes like sauerkraut with sausage, cabbage (or red cabbage), coleslaw, etc. I just can't get myself to eat them.

I've grown up in Alabama and have enjoyed many southern style foods, but I can't stand fried okra. Also, I prefer stuffing to dressing. I blame that on my yankee father :P
 
I hate when my aunts put pig's feet in menudo. **** is gross son!

I've eaten that twice, it aint so bad. One of my coworkers brought it in as a dare and no one wanted to do it, so I stepped up to the plate. Once you get past the idea, it tastes pretty good.

Tastes like pencil shavings and burnt toothpaste. And I'm not being hyperbolic, that is actually what it tastes like to me.

Irish as well, and I can't think of one cuisine I don't like. I eat corned beef and cabbage on a regular basis.

Just the thought of corned beef and cabbage is :barf:.
 
I'm Polish, so my family serves tons of nasty food. Doesn't help that I'm an extremely picky eater too. My family has this special meal they prepare for Christmas and I usually only just eat the fish because anything else makes me feel like I'm going to puke. :barf:
 
Any dishes with bitter melons and sea cucumbers are terrible for my taste buds. I used to hate eggplants as well, but not anymore.

Anyhoo, I'm American, so I choose McDonalds. Just nuke that place already. Nevermind I just had a fantastic Angus Bacon/Cheese sandwhich earlier from there, just nuke that place.:o
 
Small amounts of sauerkraut are ok but I dont care for bratwurst. Beer is fine in moderation. I'm Norwegian and I dont especially care for fish. Salmon is fine.
 
I can't think of anything from my "culture" that I find particularly repulsive. Then again, I don't know what exactly is meant by "my culture." I don't know my ethnicity; all I know is that I'm Caucasian. I'm American, but I can't think of any American cuisine that I'm adverse to.

There are only a couple of foods that I dislike among all I've tried so far. One of those is urchin (the roe). I don't enjoy raw squid, but I still eat it every time it's brought out.
