Forever Evil: Blight

Written by J.M. Dematteis and Ray Fawkes.

While I'm not a huge fan of such large stories contained in titles that I don't normally buy, this has my interest. Taking place in Justice League Dark, Constantine, Phantom Stranger, and Pandora. I buy and really enjoy JLD and Phantom Stranger. I like Pandora as a character, though her title let me a little blah during Trinity War, but I'll keep getting it for this. I also like that it'll include characters like Swamp Thing and the Spectre.

We'll see how it turns out. While I see this as a huge jumping off point for people, I'm hoping it'll increase sales for JLD and particularly Phantom Stranger.

I'm very interested in this forever evil story and I'm picking up that and the justice league issues. I don't know if I can afford an 18 part crossover now. I might have to just pick this up as a trade.

Yeah, DC is really running with this Forever Evil thing. I'm picking up Forever Evil, Arkham War, and Blight for sure. Maybe some tie-ins.

But I'm definitely going to need to cut a few Marvel titles to make room for it.

I can admire the idea, but an 18-parter? really? I only read Pandora and I'm going to have to drop it until she gets her own story again. I can't pick up 4 extra comics to read the entire story.

It'd be 3 extra comics, not 4, but I get get your point. It is a lot.

But with Infinity being 17 issues (not including lead-ins like Avengers 1-3, the prelude arcs of Avengers and New Avengers, and Thanos Rising), I can't really fault DC for playing big as well. Hopefully the story for this will feel more necessary and actually show character progression. It's definitely got a great cast.

Constantine, Spectre, Phantom Stranger, Pandora, the Question, and Swamp Thing have my attention. I'm sure the actual Justice League Dark (or at least Deadman and Zantana, but hopefully Frankenstein as well) will probably eventually show up, and they're awesome.

True, but the thing is for Infinity I was already buying both Avengers books beforehand, and I don't buy the tie-ins. So it's not a stretch to buy one extra book.

And yeah they're a great cast but I just can't afford it right now.

Interview with Ray Fawkes

So he says pretty solidly that there will be lots of magic users, not just those listed in the previous article. Good to hear.

I hope the Enchantress can make a return. I really liked her in the first arc of Justice League Dark.

I don't have a problem with huge crossovers like Infinity and Rotworld when I'm already buying the titles in play. I'm not going to get into a huge 18 issue crossover when I don't buy half the titles involved. Plus, I feel like the writers haven't been properly tested yet for me to trust them with an 18 part crossover like I did with Hickman with Infinity and Snyder/Lemire on Rotworld.

If anything, this has convinced me to drop Justice League Dark and Constantine as opposed to picking up Pandora and Phantom Stranger. Justice League Dark was on the chopping block for me until Lemire hopped on board and saved the book. Him leaving made me vary wary but I was going to give DeMatteis (a good writer) a try until they announced this crap.

Oh well, with the DC books I've been dropping lately, I can always get into those All-New Marvel NOW books to replace them.

Interview with Dematteis

Still sounds interesting. I like most of what he had to say, and I'm glad it sounds like the Demon will also be making an appearance at some point. Pretty interested that the kid Phantom Stranger saved from Heaven in his title will become an important character in his title. And anytime Spectre has a fairly large ongoing role, I'm in.
