I'm gonna do some major spring cleaning on my computer, so I'm gonna reinstall Windows XP and format my C drive. This is the first time I've done this, but I think I've got everything I need. I've backed up all my important files on CD, I've got my original Windows XP CD. Everything else I can just reinstall. I do wonder about a few things though. Like programs where I've registered the software. When I reinstall, how do make it known that the software is registered. If theres any last minute suggestions you guys can give me, I'd appreciate it.

im bout to do the same thing, finally found my xp disk today. i've never reformatted before and i really don't wanna screw up

I suggest, making sure you have downloaded DRIVERS for your pc.
The big one is the NETWORK card drivers. So when you reload, you know you have those. and can go out to the net to get anything else.

I leanred with bitter tears on that one. Sometimes windows does not natively see and user the hardware and needs to know the drivers for them.

I've recently bought a bunch of equipment for my home studio (Cubase 4, DrumkitFromHell, Big Friggin Drums, Creative X-Fi sound card, etc.), and in trying to install everything, it has been hell because the people who write the manuals have no idea how to speak normally.

Your post reminded me of that.

"Sometimes windows does not natively see and user the hardware and needs to know the drivers for them."

That does not make sense.

Windows does not natively see...and user...the hardware...and needs to know the drivers...

If...only Windows would see and user the hardware.

Sorry, I use the word USER at work all the time, let me translate for:

The Microsoft Operating System you are trying to install, may not see and understand how to use the hardware (meaning, it does not have drivers for the hardware builtin). So therefore, you need to make sure you have a copy of the drivers for the Network Card at least (if you have the network card, then you can get online to download other drivers) so you can install the rest of the hardware that Windows does not see.

Do you require a more detailed explanation?

All of the stuff about Windows not seeing the hardware and needing drivers makes sense to an outsider, but I've never heard "user" used as a verb before.
Even if it is routinely, it shouldn't be, because "user" is a noun.
That's the sort of thing that adds an unnecessary layer of confusion...which happened again when you said:

translate for what?
Shouldn't it say, "Let me translate for you:", or am I insane?

Oh Jeez man give it a rest. Can't a guy make a typo? Someone have got to be a complete idiot not to read the entire thing and not figure out what the person is saying even with the very small grammatical errors.
