Jason Sudeikis and Cheryl Hines have landed starring roles in one of the most unusual comedy series ideas to come along in quite awhile: Son of Zorn.

Fox’s project is a hybrid of animation and live action (think Who Framed Roger Rabbit) about an animated fantasy warrior named Zorn (Sudeikis, SNL) who reconnects with his estranged live-action son Alan (Johnny Pemberton, 21 Jump Street) and ex-wife Edie (Hines, Curb Your Enthusiasm). Also on board is Tim Meadows (Mean Girls) as Edie’s live-in boyfriend and Artemis Pebdani (Scandal) as Zorn’s boss.

Here’s the official full logline: “Upon arriving home for the first time in ten years, an animated Barbarian father finds that reconnecting with his live-action son and ex-wife while suffering a mundane office job and the banality of suburban life is harder than waging actual war in his distant, animated world.” So you could say it’s like Roger Rabbit meets Conan the Barbarian meets The Incredibles.

The potential series is currently in the presentation stage and is from executive producers Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Seth Cohen, who recently proved that pushing the creative envelope on Fox can draw an audience with last season’s surprise sleeper success Last Man on Earth (which included a cameo by Sudeikis). Reed Agnew and Eli Jorne are the showrunners.
Lawd, I need to see this come to fruition.

Finally, a sequel to the He-man movie we've all been clamouring for.

Nice. This series sounds interesting.

Oh my Gaaaaawd. I'm so in.

Yeah, this could be fun.

Olivia Wilde to play Jason Sudeikis' ex on Son of Zorn
Olivia Wilde will guest-star in an upcoming episode of the live-action/animated comedy, EW has learned. The House alum — who also just happens to be Sudeikis’ fiancée — plays the animated character Radiana, an ex-girlfriend of Zorn (Sudeikis) from their homeland of Zephryia. When Zorn starts to feel insecure when he doesn’t have a date to bring to the engagement party for his ex-wife Edie (Cheryl Hines) and Craig (Tim Meadows), he contacts his old flame. A romance restarts between the two, but this relationship may turn out to be too toxic, in a literal sense.
:awesome:

Ok just watched the trailer and this looks awesome.

I think my only issue here is that Zorn's syntax is very suburban-ish modern as well. I think it would be more amusing if he didn't have such a modern, casual voice and talked more like He-Man or a Conan the Barbarian type.

Parks and Recreation vet Nick Offerman joins Son of Zorn cast
First, the good news: Nick Offerman is going to play a character named Dr. Klorpins.

Offerman — whose animated credits include Axe Cop, Bob’s Burgers, and The Simpsons — voices a doctor from Zorn’s animated homeland of Zephyria who lives in a cave. He will be among Zorn’s friends who come to visit him in the live-action realm.
Yaaaaas.

The hawk bit continues to get me...

Premiere/Preview tonight.

Saw on Twitter that it's supposed to start in about 10 minutes.

I enjoyed it. I do love Zorn's bald spot.

Somehow I don't see this going a full season, the actors will just eventually tire of having to stare at a tennis ball before the animation is placed in, although maybe they can take a cue from the 1980s sitcom ALF in which the actors had to endure 4 torturous years of working with a puppet.

I'll catch a few more episodes before I decide to stick with it.

I do kind of wonder how it feels to be on a show with Jason Sudeikis playing the lead character... when you're not actually working opposite Sudeikis. Funny as the material might be, I do have to wonder if it loses it's appeal after awhile.

I thought there were funny moments, but I feel like it's one of those shows that is going to take a few episodes to really find it's footing. The first ep just felt a bit off. I think I saw one of the writers/directors say on Twitter that part of the episode was a presentation reel they made to sell FOX on the idea, and they added more later to make it full-length. So I'm curious to see what episodes 2, 3, 4 look like.

I can definitely see that.

Regular timeslot starting tonight.

2nd episode wasn't any better I just left it on as background noise while doing chores, about the only bit I found amusing was the joke of Zorn asking his ex-wife if she still had the tattoo on her buttcheeks of a Z on one cheek and the RN on the other cheek meaning you know where the "O" is.
