According to a just-received press release, Cartoon Network is partnering with DC Comics on a Warner Bros.-produced “animated sketch-comedy series” based on MADMagazine. You may recall that MAD got into the sketch comedy game once before, reactions to which generally ranged from “eh, it’s as good as Saturday Night Live has been lately” to “IT IS ANATHEMA TO ALL THINGS HUMOROUS,” but this adaptation appears to hew slightly more faithfully to the beloved magazine that regularly skewered popular culture through its use of relentless puns and vaguely Yiddish sound effects, so that’s encouraging. Viewers can expect to see “a chaotic mix of animation styles and twisted humor to pull back the curtain and expose the truth behind movies, TV shows, games, pop culture and, of course, curtains,” one that also features “classic characters including Alfred E. Neuman and Spy Vs. Spy.” We would submit further follow-up questions if we didn’t fear the swift reprisal of a snappy answer, but expect to hear more about the show in the very near future.
