'Exorcist' Remake Ordered to Pilot at Fox
JANUARY 22, 2016 4:00pm PT by Kate Stanhope

The project hails from 'Fantastic Four' scribe Jeremy Slater.

The Exorcist is getting rebooted.

Fox has ordered an adaptation of the 1971 book to pilot, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

A modern reinvention inspired by William Blatty’s original book, The Exorcist is a propulsive, serialized psychological thriller following two very different men tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession, and confronting the face of true evil.

Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four) will write the one-hour drama, and exec produce with James Robinson, David Robinson and Barbara Wall. 20th Century Fox Television will produce in association with Morgan Creek Productions.

This isn’t the first time Fox has turned to successful movie properties for pilot ideas. This past fall, Minority Report failed to catch on with viewers despite it's impressive performance at the box office. This pilot season also saw the network explore a possible reboot of the 1980 film Urban Cowboy. However, Fox ultimately passed on the project last month.

Cinemax is also in the exorcism business with the upcoming Robert Kirkman drama Outcast.

The Exorcist film hit theaters in 1973 and went on to gross more than $232 million at the box office.

Slater is repped by UTA and Kaplan / Perrone Entertainment.
The writer involved is inevitably going to invite skepticism, but wasn't his F4 script f***ed with a lot before they went into production?

Either way, curious to see who they get to direct and star.

Your mother sucks Fox in hell, Karras!

Slater writing doesn't bother me. If anything his script for FF was good and it's the thing that got Fox excited about doing it. But then like most bad movies, the original good script gets ****ed with along the way.

It's not the writing I'm worried about, it's the on the nose pop song they'll use for its commercials.

Oh please. The second you hear "You spin my head right round, right round" you'll be smiling. :o

I wonder just how scary and dark FOX will allow this to be. I'm intrigued just by the ambition of this project. To tackle arguably the scariest film in American cinema, it's a lot of pressure. I want them to stay moderately faithful but take liberties so it's not a remake for television. Take it to new places and put a spin to it. Adapt some things from the novel that was changed in the film.

This definitely has potential. But of course, it's FOX, the network that cancels 50% of their shows so I'm skeptical like hell.

:o

This should be a case of the week series.:o

I don't know enough recent pop songs for a comeback.

But when Demi Lovato is cast I'll think of something.

Regan Charlotte Gets a Sister In “The Exorcist” Television Series

The new spin on “The Exorcist” adds a sibling.

Hannah Kasulka has been cast opposite Brianne Howey in Fox drama pilot “The Exorcist,” a modern reinvention inspired by William Blatty’s 1971 book, Deadline reports.

Written by Jeremy Slater, “The Exorcist” is described as a propulsive, serialized psychological thriller following two very different men tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession and confronting the face of true evil.

Kasulka will play Casey Rance, the wall-flower of the family. Casey is worried about her sister Charlotte (Brianne Howey), who has been holed up in her room ever since her serious accident.

‘Exorcist’: Alfonso Herrera & Ben Daniels To Star In Fox Drama Pilot
Alfonso Herrera (Sense8, The Chosen) and Ben Daniels (House of Cards) are set to topline The Exorcist, Fox’s drama pilot inspired by William Blatty’s 1971 book.

The Exorcist, penned by feature writer Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four), is described as a modern reinvention of the book, previously adapted into William Friedkin’s classic horror movie. It is a propulsive, serialized psychological thriller following two very different men — Father Tomas Ortega (Herrera) and Father Marcus Lang (Daniels) — tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession and confronting the face of true evil.

Herrera’s Father Tomas is the warm, selfless and compassionate leader of a small but hearty little church. Daniels’ Father Marcus is the intense holy warrior carrying out an occupation that the church no longer acknowledges in public.
Our old priest and our young priest.

I liked Ben Daniels in Law and Order UK. I have trouble seeing him in the "Father Merrin" role, but I'll give it a try. Just waiting for those jerks in the Catholic League or Focus On The Family to lose their **** over a gay actor playing a moralistic priest.

I'm waiting for TWD to reveal to the world that their character named Jesus is gay, just to see how those kinds of folks react.

The Exorcist is coming to television? Sounds interesting, hopefully they'll capture the dread of the original film.

I am wondering two things.

How scary can the show be for a network television show? And how scary can the demon look for a network television show?

Probably no crucifix *********ion, but otherwise, we'll see.

I'd like to see Fox go as far as they can go. Television is general is less strict than it was even ten years ago. Make this worthy because there are so many people who would love to see this fail. The film is legendary.

This should have been on FX. At least they have the balls to pull off a show like this. Fox's idea of scary is the Following and Sleepy Hollow. Ermagawd! Im ashakin!
