Free Roam/Open World/Sandbox Favorites?

Holy hell how could I forget about Ghost Tsushima?!?! Probably my top favorite overall. Never has a map been so beautifully designed and immersive.

I forgot about that one too, but in that case, the story, combat and RPG elements to the game took a front seat over the open world for me. Don't get me wrong, the scope and look of the map was great, but it didn't grab me like say, Red Dead Redemption 2's map did. I didn't feel a need to just go and explore like I did for RDR2.

I'm still waiting for Ghost of Tsushima to be somewhere $30, but since it looks AC in Japan with more style, I would probably like it.

RDR2, hmmm I hate ambushes especially when you literally have to take care of your horse. One time my horse was killed during an ambush and never recovered it. And the map is mostly empty especially the locations from RDR1 and the snowy mountains. Its just not something that I can free roam for hours.

Ghost of Tsushima is absolutely worth the full price. Imo.

I might be in the minority on this but I really enjoyed Assassin's Creed: Odyssey. Just finished it a couple days ago. Map is incredible.

I see Assassin's Creedy Odyssey as a good example of the GAAS system. It's single player, can be played offline, and had a year and half of content continuously added. A good bunch of it for free. Now the XP gains were definitely jacked to push towards time savers, and they had a lot of market place items. But it definitely wasn't as bad as it can get it. Oh and it had FREE transmog. Cost nothing in or out of the game. Can't say the same for Valhalla or Destiny.

But Ubisoft is now wanting to focus on triple A microtransactions RPG stuff and mobile games. So Odyssey is going to be the last of the greats in just a few short years.

Will be a big shame if so.

I think what they are doing with Valhalla is fine however the story could have been a lot better. I thought the story of Valhalla was a downgrade from Odyssey. The first eXpansion didn't seem that substantial despite featuring a new location.

All the microtransactions I saw in the store are mostly cosmetics. The enemies aren't really hard and its very easy to level up, so you just need to do more missions to get stronger. I also enjoy the limited time festivals for the ambience of the camp. I think there's two more.

I think I've downloaded/bought (using in game currency) a dozen of skins for the mount/raven and decorations for the camp. I don't use tattoos at all and my armor/gear are just fine. The game just feels bloated with hundreds of cosmetic choices and the skill tree is just ginormous but I think they are doing it to keep the engagement for the game.
