Jason Voorhees is packing up his chainsaw and heading to television.

An hour-long drama based on the iconic horror franchise Friday the 13th is currently in development, our sister site Deadline reports. Though the new series will be set in present-day Crystal Lake — the setting of the original 1980 film — Bill Basso (Terminator) and Jordu Schell (Avatar) are crafting a storyline that will show Jason in several different time periods.

“Expect the show to take viewers in some exciting new directions that we’re confident will not only excite existing fans of Friday the 13th, but also attract new audiences to the situations and characters that inhabit the small town of Crystal Lake,” says Horror Inc. president Robert Barsamian, who will also produce.

The series, which is not yet attached to a network, will be produced by Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Crystal Lake Entertainment. Sean S. Cunningham, who produced the original film, will executive-produce.

I don't think this would work anybody agree

Not sure about this but will definitely be checking it out

This is amazing news, and just hearing the fact that we'll see "Jason in different decades" makes me excited that maybe we'll see Jason in his right place, back in the 80's again!

Any chance of getting Kane Hodder back to play Jason?

Wait wait wait...we have another dreammaster here?

As for this series, interesting. Not sure what to think yet but I guess we'll see.

I'm sure 80% of the fanbase is praying for that right now, and Sean Cunningham said a long time ago, any chance that he could get to get Kane back to play Jason he would.

That show has a good following. I remember them planning a prequel that would be called Crystal Lake and show a young Jason, taking the Smallville road.

My take on how the show would be...

Just call the show Crystal Lake. The first season has the mysterious murders throughout the season, plus maybe some one-off "supernatural" mysteries and episodes. Final episodes of the show climax with the reveal of Pamela Vorhees and all that, setting up Jason for the following season(s). Maybe after a season or two of Jason's murder spree, actually pull the trigger and have someone (like Tommy Jarvis) take over the mantle of Crystal Lake murderer.
