I guess the original Fright Night was also ripping off Disturbia then, eh? Boy in suburbs witnesses next door neighbor commiting a murder. Quite a feat, considering Disturbia wouldn't be made for another 22 years.
Besides, you don't know what tone and feel Fright Night '11 has, because you haven't seen it. You have only the trailer to go by.
The original Fright Night did not contain the same kind of style or tone. It was very much a dark comedy, for sure. But in no way did it have the same kind of feel or edgy flare the remake seems to have. Which I agree is more in the style and tone as Disturbia. Premise is premise, and many movies can have the same basic plot. But how it's presented and what they do with it is what sets it apart from the ones that came before it.
Movies that are made now are different than the movies made then. Our pop culture has changed, therefore our films are going to change with it, be it style, substance, or commentary. Fright Night 2011 has more of an edgy sexual horror comedy, whereas I can say the original Fright Night is more of a dark horror comedy. I mean, you can bet if they were to remake Gremlins it would be far edgier and sexual than the original. Most movies have more of a meta flare to them nowadays anyway.
Not saying this remake will be better, though. It CAN be good, but the trailer was edited poorly
