Fright Night remake

Colin Farrell just killed my interest. His Groucho eyebrows distract me too much...

and how can you not like Anton Yelchin?

It's not that I hate him, it's just that he's not that memorable in the roles I've seen him in so far. He was fine as Chekov in Star Trek, unremarkable in Charlie Bartlett (who was upstaged by supporting actor RDJ), but nothing about him screams Charley Brewster.

I wonder who'll Dreamworks hire to play his love interest, it better not be someone frumpy like Amanda Bearse in the original.

So who would everyone else like to fill out the rest of the cast.

We still need the following to be cast. And the others cast is.

Charlie - Anton Yeltin
Charlies - Toni Collete
Jerry Danridge - Collin Farrell
--------------------------

Amy - Charlies Girlfriend.
Evil Ed - Charlies Friend
Peter Vincent - The Aged Horror Actor turned Movie Host
Billy - Jerry Danridge's Bodyguard

My possible choices for Amy (could change Hair color perhaps and under a certain age I think Like Under 25 or so to be a 18 year old)
Emma Stone

Nina Dobrev

Mary Elizabeth Winstead

Leighton Meester

And I know alot might not like this, but oh well.

Demo Lovato

My two choices I like to see for The Billy Cole role

Misha Collins (Most famous for playing Castiel the Angel on Supernatural) I think he could be good as the bodyguard type role or even if they would have a cop part in this, that wasn't in the original.

Julian McMahon. He plays good bad guy roles.

Malcolm McDowell. He just looks like the role of the original character.

As for the role of evil Ed I don't know really. So I just threw together some names. But it might be best to cast a unknown or someone who's not done much.

Jack Carpenter (almost a unknown)

Thomas Deker (From Sarah Connor Terminator fame aswell as the NOES remake) I think he has that type of look the character should have.

well, you can all tell me if you liked or hated these pics and make up your own aswell too.

More Details Revealed About the Fright Night Remake

In a Variety article today, writer Marti Noxon (Mad Men) revealed that her forthcoming Fright Night remake is set in Las Vegas.

Craig Gillespie is sitting in the director's chair, as we know, and shooting is going to begin this July with stars Anton Yelchin (in the Charley Brewster role), Colin Farrell (as Jerry Dandrige) and Toni Collette. Noxon describes her take on Dandrige as, "much more 'Jaws'-like vampire in the Amblin tradition."

Until now, we've been wondering who will be assisting Charley in his quest to destroy the vampire next door. In the early stages of development, Shock was tipped off that they might lure Chris Sarandon into the Peter Vincent role, except Sarandon would play himself...as the man who played Dandrige in Tom Holland's Fright Night.

That can be dismissed. It's not happening.

However, the latest we've heard - and the Vegas setting of the film now backs this up - is that Peter Vincent will be a "Criss Angel-type": Tight black pants. Rock 'n roll attitude. A showman. When we first heard this rumor, we questioned, "Why would a Criss Angel type" be in a small town in the first place?" Well, if that "small town" is Vegas...that explains everything.

Vegas seems like a weird place to set it, but I'm not gonna write it off.

yeah that sounds right, a threat close to home where people feel the most safe, hell lets stick it in vegas

A vampire movie in Vegas?

:barf:

Terrible.

And to think I was half-way intrigued by this remake.

I heard that the character thats suppose to be Peter Vincent resembles Russell Brand, atleast someone said from their look at the script discription.

Like I said before, I'm not gonna put this off, until I actually see footage. Its the sensible thing to do really I think.

Well, at least they seem to be making the remake it's own thing instead of a pointless beat for beat "reimagining". Can't say the new premise does much for me though, as I don't care for the Criss Angel types, while I had affection for Peter Cushing/horror hosts back in the day.

I like Ferrell alot...and Fright Night is one of the best films of its time. I was really looking forward to this, I'm not big at all on this Vegas setting though. It doesn't feel in line with what Fright Night was all about at all.

The more I hear about this project, the more I want to kick the producers in the cherry chungas.

It's nice that they're trying not to do a reshoot of the original on newer film stock...but this movie appears to be shaping so differently that it almost doesn't even feel like Fright Night. Might as well just make their ow movie if they want it to be THAT different.

Given the changes, they might as well make an original film.

David Tennant ("Doctor Who") and Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Kick-Ass, Superbad) are joining the cast of DreamWorks remake Fright Night, to be directed by Craig Gillespie.

They will star opposite Anton Yelchin as Charlie, a teen convinced that his new neighbor (Colin Farrell) is a vampire. Toni Collette will play the teen's disbelieving mom, who falls under the vampire’s spell.

Tennant will play Peter Vincent, a character who in the original movie was played by Roddy McDowall as the host of a late-night horror show. In the remake, he’s a Las Vegas magician whose show revolves around horror-movie imagery. Vincent claims to be a vampire expert, but when the teen turns to him for assistance, he’s less than helpful.

Mintz-Plasse is playing Evil Ed, Yelchin's friend who feels slighted that Charlie has left his nerdy past behind and thus joins the vampire's coven.

NOOOOO!!!!!!! Not McLovin!

Lol. There's a surprisingly good cast of actors for this. Tennant, Yelchin, Farrell, Collette.

SCRIPT REVIEW: Fright Night remake

Screenplay
by: Marti Noxon
Rating: 7/10

Just got a chance to read the script for the FRIGHT NIGHT remake, and let me tell ya friends, it’s not nearly as bad as you might think. It’s not perfect by any means, but has some promise. Most of the original’s plot outline is relatively intact, although the specific story beats are markedly different. And character wise we’ve still got Charlie, Amy, Jane, Jerry, “Evil” Ed, and a significantly younger Peter Vincent. Let’s start with that.
If anything will cause hand wringing amongst the faithful I expect it will be seeing Peter Vincent as a middle aged, Vegas showman with a rock ‘n roll image. In truth I nearly wrote the new script off as soon as he was introduced. Fortunately the character is handled similarly to the original, and the gulf between the two incarnations is not as wide as it first seems.
On to our protagonist now. In a turn that makes the first act of the script play more like MEAN GIRLS or CAN’T BUY ME LOVE than a horror flick, Charlie is updated as a newly popular guy trying to distance himself from old friends, and still uncomfortable with the new ones. Going along with this, Amy is now your typical WB teen girl, straddling the line between promiscuous and chaste, sweet and annoying. Neither of these two or their small clique of friends is developed beyond the most rudimentary teen stereotypes.

Since Charlie is now a popular kid, “Evil” Ed is made the driving force behind the discovery that Jerry is a vampire. Unfortunately, beyond this small part to play, and a repeat appearance that will not surprise anyone familiar with the original, the role has been whittled down to a glorified cameo as a bitter, blackmailing, ex-friend.

But where the script goes very right is with Jerry Dandrige. He is exactly the mixture of charm and menace fans like to see from a vampire, and seeing Colin Farrell in this role promises to be the biggest selling point of the film. It’s a role he should hit out of the park and while the last half of the script gives the character little to do other than look scary and stalk around, the first half does a banner job.

As to the horror elements, there’s a lot of gore on the page, but the last half of the script plays more like an action flick than anything scary. Blown up houses, car chases, penthouse break-ins and the eventual denouement at Jerry’s house all come at a clip that will not disappoint the ADD generation.

But while this will clearly have a markedly different feel from the original, the script has plenty of potential to give us a solid, entertaining vampire flick the likes of which we have not seen in some time. My biggest problem with the script actually, is not the differences from the original (I think it deserves to be judged on its own merits), but the numerous tonal shifts and logic lapses that crop up too frequently.

Small things like a Las Vegas teenager in 2010 being gob smacked just because a girl puts her hand on his leg. I mean, c’mon, I’ve heard 14 and 15 year-olds talking about the finer points of ass-to-mouth. There’s also a lengthy sequence that requires two high school seniors to navigate both a Las Vegas casino floor and gain entry to a nightclub without being asked for ID until it serves the plot to have one of them bounced. Ever been to Vegas? That’s not happening.

And it’s hard to overlook just how careless Jerry is about killing people in ways that would likely draw a lot of attention. For someone who has been doing this a very long time, he is awfully sloppy.

I expect many of these issues will be cleaned up in subsequent revisions and editing, but as of this draft there are plenty of distractions in there that would benefit from a hearty polish.

So bottom line, this is not a complete disaster or a slap in the face to the original, but don’t get too excited. After a shaky start that feels more ONE TREE HILL than NEAR DARK, we get about 30 pages of really good vampire creepiness and buildup before the last half becomes an action-fueled adrenaline fest that could be pretty fun, but makes me nervous more than it gets me excited.

Tennant as Peter Vincent is pretty much win.

Hmm, the script review doesn't seemed very promising imo, but I guess we'll have to wait and see. If the movie turns out to be more teen angst than horror, though, then I'll be disappointed.
