Fright Night remake

You're spot on with the Alien pair... the rest is questionable, or rather debatable. LOL :cwink:

I do rate movies on how much I like them too, but I also factor in the story... execution. For example... I love ESCAPE FROM LA... but I also know it's a highly flawed movie so I only rate it a 7/10. If I was just gushy over it, I could very well give it a 10 because I dig it... but I gotta be honest with myself about it.

It's been a very competitive Summer, so unfortunately some movies are bound to get overlooked by the public and underperform as a result. Hopefully this at least does better overseas and becomes huge on DVD and Blu-ray. I'd love to see this get a sequel.
Yeah, that's a possibility.
I mean, the first 'Austin Powers' film was a bomb at the box office, but became a huge hit on video/ DVD.

Add me to the list of guys who thinks the original Evil Ed was one of the best parts of the original Fright Night. Hilarious and creepy at the same time
Agreed, though, that does not take anything away from the remake if you ask me.

haha, I know eh! Exactly like Metallo said... funny and extremely creepy

Technically speaking, Fright Night deserves a 9/10. Its problems are very minor, but they can hurt the overall film to some. However, I enjoyed despite its flaws. So it's a 10/10 in the "How fun was it?" meter.

That better, Ponyboy? :D

I give it a 7/10 for now but I can see myself bumping it to at least an 8 after a few more repeat views.

Wow! This movie flopped even with a 30m budget. Oh well, I cannot wait to check it out on DVD.

I didnt want to read to many posts in this read for fear of spoilers but is this movie worth watching? Me and my friend arent sure wether to see this or Colombiana(cant spell)?

I'd say it's definitely well worth seeing in theaters and I'd see it ASAP before it gets pulled. Don't see it lasting long in theaters with it's poor box office performance.

Thanks the only reason we didnt watch it was to see Conan (I thought was alright but different thread) and I like Colin F. I was wondering what the heck happened to him he should be a huge star he was in a Speildberg movie.

I still can't believe this didn't do better at the box office.

Me either. I'm kinda baffled, really. The reviews were mostly good, it looked interesting from the a casual viewer stand point. I don't know what did it in. It had it all, IMO. Some humor, some genuinely creepy and suspenseful moments, some action, and good acting all around. It even had nice little character moments like when Jerry hissed at the beam of sunlight. It was great. I hope it gets some legs while it's still in theaters and maybe at least breaks even on DVD. I would have loved to see them tackle Fright Night 2 as well, especially to see who would play [blackout]Jerry's sister, Regine.[/blackout]

Heres my take on why it did bad
I think it did bad because for one the name when I heard the name I was like wtf Fright Night sounds like a cgi kids movie.
and the commercials for it were odd what was it trying to be a comedy or horror and to be honest Mcloven forgot his real name didnt help to be showed in the ads for this movie. When me and my friend looked into this movie we were surprised that it was rated R but I plan on seeing it this weekend.

Definitely. I hope this gets a sequel. I'd love to see Fright Night 2 remade in this new continuity.

Saw it today. I liked it. I didn't think it was better than the original, as some of the reviews I read claimed, but there were some improvements over the original. I thought the female lead was hotter, the FX were better, and I liked the ending better. However the original had a charm to it that the new one didn't have. I also liked the original Jerry.

No disrespect to Colin Farrell, who did a good job. His take on the character was his own and he worked it out. I just liked the original guy better. I also liked the suspense of the original, the build up as Charlie tried to prove to everyone what Jerry really was and the vamp was always one step ahead. In the new one I guess they assumed the audience knew about the first film and just decided to cut to the chase more quickly.

Farrell had the appropriate menace and a bad boy swagger. I thought he was a good choice for a vampire and perhaps should've shown up as one in a film way before this. However he's not as scary to me as the guy in the Bill Cosby sweaters, giving subtle little 'got you' or 'I'm going to get you' smiles at Charlie as he makes him look like a crazy kid again. Farrell's full on vamp makeup didn't work for me though.

Not a lot was done with Evil Ed. I had expected him and Charlie to be closer in the film, but I wasn't too put off by the way the new film done it. I was hoping he got the cross to the face like in the original though.

Tennant was almost unrecognizable at first. It took me a moment to get into his take on Vincent. It seemed like he was channeling Russell Brand. I thought the change in occupation for his character was pretty neat and I guess more contemporary. I'm mixed on Jerry being the one who murdered his parents. Seemed like he would've had more of a reaction when he saw him the first time. Granted we don't know exactly how all that went down. I didn't think it really needed to be Jerry as the murderer. It felt too small world, as if Jerry is the only vampire out there, killing and siring.

I really liked the closing credits and that take on the Jay-Z song "99 Problems". It's unfortunate that this film tanked. I wish they had dropped it around Halloween. Maybe it would've gotten better box office. It sucks because it likely won't get a sequel.

*sigh*... I guess...

Am I the only person who loves it when Collin Ferrell as Jerry says "Guy" and the "ripe" line?

I'm sure it would've cleaned house at the box office if it got a late September/early October release. Hopefully it'll do much better overseas and on DVD/Blu-ray.
