Funniest/dumbest MPAA ratings

yeah beowulf. i can already imagine the meeting at the MPAA building

60 year old women : its not real. its a cartoon. its fake so its not a problem.

For a great sense of the MPAA and how/why they rate things the way they do, go check out "This Movie is Not Yet Rated"

I dont see why The Matrix was rated R that made no sense there was hardly any blood.

some here have stated that it came out after columbine when in fact in came out on march 31 1999 and columbine happened april 20, 1999. obviously, the rating was in effect at least a month before the tragedy.

trust me, if the latter had been the former, we wouldn't have seen the matrix until a lengthy delay ala collateral damage.

i saw this and because of that i brought this thread back.

its just insane how the rating works in america. i am shocked.

Yeah it is crazy the amount of double standerds and other shannaigans a film can go through just to get a rating.

People REALLY need to see this to get a good understanding of the world of film making.

Yeah, I think the ratings system has for sure gotten a little off track. I've seen plenty of PG-13 movies that really should have been R.

I was puzzled by the MPAA's rating of the theatrical cut of Army of Darkness.

i mean, it wasn't that violent and it had one cuss word. everything else was like pg-13. I mean, i'm all for rated r evil dead movies, but this is a strange one.

The Matrix series honestly was a hard PG-13. That's about it. The amount of blood may have upped it to a light R, but even then.

exactly, the Matrix movies aren't that violent either. good point.

^I also thought Batman Returns was like one of the scariest movies I saw when I was younger...the part with the princess falling to her death and Max's BBQed body creeped my out.

Although The Dark Knight was violent for a PG-13 it still deserved its PG-13 rating. If they showed blood and brain matter when Joker shot someone in the face...then yeah, I can see the reason for the R.

However the most violent PG-13 film I've seen is probably Beowulf, I know its animated but that film should've been rated R...people get their limbs ripped off, impaled, someone even gets his head chewed by Grendel really slowly.

Beowulf should have been an R; I was SO shocked to see the violence in it. It was obnoxious lingering violence too.

My one issue with the MPAA is their R rating system. It's a power move for them to force directors and studios to cut films down in order to get an R rating. IT'S AN R RATING!! Is it need that they used the NC17 rating as a power move for personal reason to get studios to cut films down to get an R? What's the differance? Not only is the NC17 rating stupid, but it basicly says "Even though you are an adult, and you decide what your child sees, we're going to tell you that even YOU can't have a say in what your child see's with you".

And they use that rating just to show power over studios and directors and basicly say, 'you don't agree with us, so you're movies NC17 and you're going to have to cut this out in order to have your movie released' or they use the R rating also to get PG13 movies out by cutting things that don't really need to be cut.

MPAA are just a bunch up tight people who think they have the right to decide what you should see. And the bad thing is, they are not even Hollywood people. They are the corner stone of citizens chosen for their prudish nature to please higher ups in congress who forced this upon Hollywood. Damn Tipper Gore and her ignorance.

The Evil Dead and Cronenberg's Crash are considered to be NC-17 and those weren't cut.

Crash didn't do so well in theaters did it? And don't lie, because I remember that movie very well for a sad sad memory that I'm still trying to get past. Limited Releases are not what I'm talking about.

The Evil Dead didn't even do well in theaters until afterwards when word got around and it started playing midnight shows. I'm speaking of wide releases in more than 1000 theaters.

When was the last time you saw a preview or tv spot for a film that said 'RATED NC-17' COMING SOON!??

I think Army of Darkness and Slumdog Millionaire for their Rated Rs is absurd.

Outsourced is PG-13 solely because of "SOME SEXUAL INTERACTION," I've seen more action on Oprah from Tom Cruise.

Although it's animated, I thought at times that Hulk Vs. Wolverine was brutal and violent, even though it got the PG-13 rating.

how ridiculous
sex is a part of life.. heck sex is life

i personaly think watching someone engage in a sex act is far more needed than seeing someone get eye burnt with a oxy torch

I'd rather that time be spent added to the plot...not extra T&A for the teenys.
