Lame.
Utterly pathetic.

PC thinking goes too far again. It doesn't apply to me, but still. Come on guys. Do something useful with your time rather than nitpicking.

I think it's a good idea, personally. If a movie features characters that smoke in a way that sends the message that smoking is a normal and perfectly legitimate thing to do, it should affect the rating. As the article said, it will be something that goes into consideration during the rating process. It's all about context, people.

For example, I personally howing the hero or heroine casually smoking a cigarette is in bad taste. But if it's a movie where quitting smoking is one of it's themes, then that's different. This is going to be a context sensitive issue, not something rigid and automatic.

And personally, imagery like this leaves me feeling violated. We might have come a long way from here, but we've still got a ways to go in terms of glamorizing cigarettes to youth.

And yet binge drinking teens will always be okay. Why because, everyone likes alcohol.

this is so stupid, I remember reading about this a while ago. They say they will try to be more tolerable to period movies but still, I don't think there is anyway they can possible enforce this. It won't last.

This is stupid. Stopping your kids smoking is a parental responsibility. That what is wrong with society. Parents don't try to discipline their kids, because they get punished legally for it anymore, and they expect others to watch their children for them.

Society, and this new policy suck.

And btw, I DON'T AND NEVER HAVE SMOKED!

Does that mean that the next Spider-Man film would be Rated R since J. Jonah Jameson is usually smoking a cigar in almost every scene he is in? Although they could work around that by addressing the fact that he had either quit smoking or simply not showing him do it.

What about holding a cigar, but never putting it in his mouth? Would that affect the rating?
