New ‘G.I. Joe’ Film Details Tease A Fresh Direction For The Franchise (Exclusive)

Although the Snake Eyes spinoff is next in line in the G.I. Joe franchise, Paramount is developing a new film centered on the world’s most elite secret operatives. Full Circle has exclusively learned plot details for the new G.I. Joe film, as well as who the studio is looking to lead the series. Paramount Pictures officially teased a new film in the franchise was in the works at Cinema Con 2019.

The story is set to revolve around G.I. Joe member Philip “Chuckles” Provost, an undercover specialist gone for years until he learns of a grave new threat. Provost tries to convince his bosses that twins Tomax and Xamot, who work for the villain organization COBRA, are after a mysterious device dubbed the “Wheel of Time”. It would allow the villains to travel into the future and obtain weapons capable of destroying the Joe’s once and for all. However, since his superiors don’t trust him, Provost forms his own squad composed of Helix, Wild Bill, Jinx, and Snake Eyes in order to reach the device before COBRA does.

The studio is eyeing actors like Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston and Alexander Skarsgard for the role of Provost.

Meh. None of this means anything until a green light is given.

Created a new one since the other G.I. Joe thread (which was originally created to discuss the reboot) has become the default Snake Eyes spin-off thread.

Chuckles? I have no memory of this character. Was he a major player in the old cartoon series?

A Snake Eyes movie is being developed? Oh hell yeah! I hope he's still in the reboot though

Henry Cavill should audition for Snake Eyes since he likes to play characters that never talk.

The name is very vaguely familar. Like I had to Wiki his profile and it still barely registered as a character I sort of remember.

Why not reboot the franchise with Duke and Flint, and, you know, actually write them the way they should be instead of whatever they were going for in the last two movies? Tatum and Catrona were so awful and were nothing like the cartoon/comic book versions of those characters.

Philip Povost was in the old GI Joe animated movie but I remember him being a minor character and the muscle. Apparently his character was completely different than from the comics, toys and stuff. I have no idea about Helix!

I know the rest and they're cool. Snake Eyes always being my favorite.

So would John Cena as Duke be too much on the nose casting?

he wasn't. The major players were Duke, Flint, Lady Jaye, Beach Head, Roadblock, Scarlett and Snake Eyes. Also Sgt. Slaughter, played by the wrestler Sgt. Slaughter. There were others like Doc, Alpine and Gung Ho.

Sgt. Slaughter cameo plz!

True story: he's the reason I became a wrestling fan because I first saw him in the GI Joe cartoon and then one day I saw a wrestling match of his on TV soon after I saw him on GI Joe.

On the nose or not. John Cena would definitely be a perfect casting for Duke or General Hawk!

I'm actually the opposite of that. I got into wrestling during the next generation era but would rent a ton of wrestling VHS tapes. I liked Sgt. Slaughter and him being part of G.I. Joes was often mentioned. So I rented G.I. Joes: The Movie for him but got into everyone else!

I soon after found the cartoon, comics and toys. Snake Eyes became my favorite! I'm still into the franchise and the live action films sucked but was pleased with Snake Eyes.

For anyone wondering what's up with Chuckles...
OKAY. I’m gonna be the guy that explains why this is exciting.

The most recent story starring Chuckles was Mike Costa’s GI JOE: COBRA for IDW. Chuckles, used in this story as a deep cover operative, is tasked with infiltrating a brand new COBRA led by a new, even more ruthless Cobra Commander (now clad in a featureless snake helmet atop a very sharp suit).

It’s basically The Departed: GI JOE as Chuckles delves deeper into the new COBRA hierarchy which now includes The Baroness, Destro, and a new truly horrifying Croc Master exposing a high level conspiracy to not only oust the new Cobra Commander but to bleed into the Joe ranks ala HYDRA.

The whole thing if collected in an omnibus called THE LAST LAUGH (as it ends for Chuckles about how it ended for Billy Costagan) But holy **** if this movie is even HALF as cool as this run, we are in for a damn fine flick.

Was Chuckles even in the cartoon? As I said, the characters I remember from the Cartoon are Duke, Flint, Lady Jaye, Scarlett, Beach Head, Snake Eyes, Doc, Gung Ho, Roadblock, Alpine and Sgt. Slaughter.
