Galaxy Quest --- Ridiculously underrated

Such an underrated movie. This is what a satire should be. It shouldn't be a scene by scene recreation of a more popular movie that adds a different aspect to the scene (like the "_____ Movie" franchise). It should take a concept and poke fun of it in a clever, subtle way while crafting it's own story (like this did with Star Trek and the fandom). Such a great movie, Tim Allen's finest hour.

So many cool things to mention... Alan Rickman is awesome in this. Sam Rockwell is hilarious as your typical "red shirt". Tony Shalhoub's performance is just too funny... and so on...

I love the way Rockwell's character is convinced throughout that he is destined to die as any redshirt on Star Trek did. Such great satire, it is up there with Welshie from Futurama.

you guys have to watch the deleted scene/extended scene, whichever it is, that has the bad guy sneaking back onto their ship at the end. he chucks Sam Rockwells character and its the funniest thing

I'm glad I did, it was pretty damn funny and had a really good cast.

Love this flick, Matt is totally on about how it does a fine job at satire, much better than what you see today. The way it pokes fun of the genre, while remaining true to the contextual structure of the genre, is great. Scream played off the same thing

i've loved this movie since i first saw it a few years back, but i'd never really considered it a satire. i always understood that it was poking fun at star trek and it's fans, even though i never watched that show, but for some reason, i just never thought of it as more than a comedy.


i do now, though... and it makes most, if not all other spoofs pale in comparison. because this can be considered both a movie in it's own right, as well as a spoof.

You know, this is Tim Allen's best live action movie, but he still manages to get the show stolen from him by Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Sam Rockwell...pretty much everyone else in the movie. But I dig it. It's the only Tim Allen movie that I enjoy other than the Toy Story movies. I always catch it whenever it's on TV.
