GamerGate Film 'Crash Override' In Development

The problem I have with Anita Sarkeesian is that she doesn't seem to play the games she comments on, or at least in a meaningful manner, and seems to miss the biggest examples of gender stereotypes in games. As you said, The Witcher 3 is incredibly progressive. Yennefer and Ciri are amazing and far from the only examples.

She doesn't play the games. Ever. There's literally a video where she says she doesn't play nor like videogames.

Anita Sarkeesian is a liar and a con artist who purposely posts things on Twitter that provokes those small (but vocal) few who would sling extreme hate at her.

Anita Sarkeesian reminds me of Jack Thompson's crusade against Grand Theft Auto and other violent games.

They're both annoying as all hell.

I haven't seen it yet, but apparently the GTA BBC movie paints Jack Thompson as some white knight. It must be bizarro world. :funny:

Not even. Not even close.
What are the origins then? Why is Zoe Quinn even involved then?

Anita is not trustworthy.

She raised over $150,000 for a video series she still hasn't completed. She takes gameplay from other people and either cherry picks or blatantly misinterprets the footage. She has said that video games are **** and then turned around and claimed she has played them all her life. On the Colbert Report, she couldn't name a single sexist game off the top of her head.

Even if Zoe Quinn did all the **** her scummy ex-boyfriend and GamerGate says she did how is it NOT sexiest that she is the one who gets targeted for all this online hate while the men who also allegedly took part in it are largely left alone? Because **** shaming a woman is easier than truly standing up to power. I think anyone who does that has no right to talk about "ethics" of any kind.

And you can disagree with Anita Sarkeesian's views, but doing so intelligently and with class sounds more effective to me than what some guys online do, which is act like an ******* and make her seem sympathetic by comparison.
The mean the game journalist people say they are complaining about? Why would anyone attack them. :o

Agree on Sarkeesian. I disagree with a lot of what she says, and her general view point on things makes it hard for me to listen to her, even when she is right. But disagreeing with her does not mean harassing her with short reponses that involve insults of the vulgar nature you see constantly.

The guys who she slept with and gave her good reviews WERE criticized. And they (along with others, including Quinn herself) played a role in the mass Gamergate censoring that went on across multiple sites.

The difference is that Quinn decided she was gonna cash in on the whole ordeal, and has been playing professional victim ever since, even taking part in the U.N. conference where they deemed that cyber violence was worse than physical violence.

The entire DOA Series

The Grand Theft Auto Series

You do realize this didn't happen right? That was made up. Also, even if it were true, it was for a game free to play game. There was zero money involved for anyone.

There seems to be some weird idea that message boards involve "free speech". If any privately owned or run board decides they want to stop harassment through not allowing certain discussion, it is more then allowed. It happens here all the time. We have had quite a few known members banned the last 6 months over it.

Emotional violence is every bit as bad as physical violence.

That's the worst example you can give.
The worst example would be something like Portal or Halo. Or one of my favorite examples, Bayonetta.

I love GTA, quite a bit actually. Especially 3 and V. But the parodies on both said are really lopsided. In the last game consider the daughter or the Britney Spears impersonator. Extremely sexist. You don't really get that with the male characters, who while plenty are dumb, aren't overtly sexualized in their critiques.

Why would a game aimed at male gamers, who are mostly heterosexual, sexualize male characters?

I doubt they got targeted the same way she did, and the way she was targeted goes WAY beyond "criticism". It was bullying and **** shaming, pure and simple. That is the kind of behavior you are defending.

Why do they need to paint women in bad light using sex no matter who the target audience is? This is the 21st century. It is crude and completely unnecessary.

I'd also point out that the majority of male targeting videogames and films glorify males in a sexual manner, whether through their "conquest" or looks.

By the way, are you going to tell me the origins of GamerGate?

At least three prominent women in the industry were attacked viciously. Death threats, threats of sexual violence, threats against their families, releasing of personal information, Doxxing, etc.

Which makes sense, because that is how this whole thing started.

This is GTA we're talking about. These games revel in over the top stereotypes and crudeness. That's why we love them.

So does South Park. But it does so with a social conscious that takes it all on and reveals the hypocrisy. I enjoy GTA because 95% of the time it is witty. That doesn't mean they get it right every time.

I'd say doing a parody of the "Valley Girl" in a game that takes place in a fictitious version of Los Angeles was a pretty good call, but okay.

It wasn't just a valley girl thing. Clueless is a Valley Girl thing. This went far beyond that and lacked perspective. I'd also point out they didn't touch on more then a few prominent male stereotypes in the same vein.

Come on, it lacked perspective? Rockstar wanted Michael to have a stupid, bumbling buffoon of a daughter to complete the broken family dynamic. Simple as that.

Are we really gonna keep score here? In that case, the Step Up movies are sexist because there are far more bare-chested men than bare-chested ladies in that franchise.

Did you play the boat scene? Because, yeah.

If you say so. I have only watched one all the way through, and found the sexy to be on both sides. :funny:

These things aren't examined in a vacuum. This isj ust like with racism. Context and history play a role. Why things are stereotypes apply. Dismissing something because another movie has shirtless mean completely misses the point.

I just looked up her Sucker Punch review. Lawd.

Still, a lot of dudes just used this gamergate crap to spill rape threats. She don't deserve that. I put them in the same batch of folks who were trying to boycott SW cause of Finn.

Too be fair, I too am not happy about the oversexualization of Finn. :o

Like I side, not a fan, but would never do what these people have done.

Whatever, agree to disagree.

I tend not to get hot and bothered about these things, but good on you for picking up a cause.
