Gavin Hood is AWESOME.

His thoughts on re-inventing Creed and Stryker, on choosing ORIGIN's take of Wolverine's beginning instead of the inserted claws, on shooting close-ups that take us away from the special effects and show us the conflict within - The man simply impresses the hell outta me. He did this exactly the way I woulda done it.

can't wait to see Gavin's movie

Yeah, can't wait to see the FINISHED movie the way it was MEANT to be seen and heard. :o

I like the interviews.

I also find it funny how the mindless Fox hating drones will probably completely ignore the fact that Hood stated that A. he enjoyed working for Rothman, and B. they never got into any big fights.

I have no problem with his ideas, the execution I've seen is what wasn't all that great.

Same.

Hood is a good director, and if he really had no problems with Fox or Rothman then he just made a meh film from what I've seen.

I blame the script writers more than anything.

They are the ones who thought that ending was a good idea.

It's not just the ending, it's the entire movie. Who were the script writers anyway? I hope no one from X1-2. It would be embarassing going from those two movies to this.

Nope, no one from X1-X2 as far as I remember. Fox really needs to wait until they have a decent script before they go ahead with the production, since that is the most important thing when it comes to plot. I read the original draft for this film and it was mediocre bordering on bad with a finale that had Wolverine facing off against a clone army of Sabretooths.

Maybe an extra $10m and 20 minutes of new footage will. :p

20 mintues? First 14, then 10, now 20. Haha. I wouldn't be surprised if some fanboys are in the theaters with stopwatches, calculating just how much extra time is added to the film.

Tell you the truth, I keep hearing all sorts of numbers.

First it was 10, then 10-12, 10-14, up to 20.

Who really knows at this point? :(

We've also heard that some things have been removed, so perhaps it's 20 mins of new stuff with 6-10 mins removed leaving a cut that's 10-14 mins longer.

I'm not the kind of person who can walk into a wreck of a house and see "potential" and I find lots of the unfinished, behind-the-scenes extras pretty dull. Even with trailers, the cutting can make dialogue sound "off" but it works in the movie. So I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have enjoyed the workprint and I'm not surpised it wasn't a hit with many here. However, I've seen positive comments made in less hostile places and I'm hoping it will all come together.

It was David Benioff and Skip Woods.

The pacing I believe is what it is because Skip Woods also wrote Hitman, which was paced rather similarly to the workprint.

As far as the execution of the rest of the film, well, storyline wise, it was pretty much exactly what I expected it to be. I'll go into actual detail come May 1. Until that time, I'll just say that the story worked. I just don't like the ending.

20 minutes, or 14 minutes, or hell even just 10 minutes won't change the ending. But it will fix the other problem, which is pacing. Better pacing and development will do WONDERS for this film, as that's really what the biggest flaw is. 14 minutes of pacing and development is actually a LOT of footage.

Without giving details obviously was the ending that bad? Is it because of how Logan loses his memory? Or the whole Weapon XI thing?

To me, it's not specifically Deadpool / Weapon XI

It is the overall resolution to 3 of the film's characters, of whom I won't name because I don't want to walk that fine line between what I can and cannot say.

I thought the entire finale was a mess. In a lot of ways. After a certain point it starts going downhill and it doesn't stop until the end of the film. There are many laughable moments.
