Gavin Hood Talking about Tom Rothman

Interesting interviews. He comes across as strong and intelligent. You can tell that he's had to learn how to argue with comic book fans.

"I have never had a standup argument with Rothman."

I've wondered if the arguments have been exaggerated. There's little doubt that there were arguments on set but it's not clear who was involved. It's also not that unusual, particularly on X-Men films (Bryan Singer was known for his "hissy fits"). Perhaps the australian crew were less used to upsets that their american counterparts or were less discreet. Being far from Hollywood, any rumour could easily get blown out of proportion.

I have heard a few people say the film is so bad that Ratner could have directed it. Makes me wonder what his definition of "standup argument" is... coming to physical blows?

Well it's funny you should say that since I've read quite a few reports that it's excellent. So either pick who you choose to believe or go see it for yourself.

When I checked over on the spoiler board, it seemed that a lot of the people who saw the bootleg were the same ones who were saying they wouldn't see it in the theatre. If you watch an unfinished version of a film that you want to dislike, you're not giving in a fair assessment.

Exactly, and when those are the people reviewing it, and it's a popular news story and media outlets start scouring places for reviews, those are the reviews that get reported and suddenly the news becomes that the movie is bad. That's not fair at all.

That's what pisses me off the most - the "bad review" stuff is getting play on the internet and in news stories, not mentioning some of the good ones that are out there, or even that it's not the final film. Well hopefully we'll have a real assessment at the first REAL screening next week in Sydney.

I like Rappe too - and those two Hood interviews were awesome.

This was fantastic.

Thanks for this.

I hate how people give more merit to rumor and word-of-mouth, and when it comes down to the actual people like Hugh Jackman and Hood setting the facts straight, no one cares or act as if they never existed.

It's ok to read a rumor and take it with a grain of salt.

It's not ok to use a rumor like a firestorm and swirl it out of control just because you're looking for disappointment every time you read something with FOX on it.

Well said! It always seems like the bad stuff gets spread around as truth but then when it's refuted it's "covering their butts". As another example, it reminds me of newspapers when they print misinformation "above the fold" on page 1 and then when the real story comes out, the "retraction" is buried on page 55 in type 2 font in the bottom corner.

Like they always say, blood and guts sells I guess.

The one thing that I didn't like is how Hood uses the concept of being in the "real world" to justify Gambit's eyes turning red in that ONE shot.

I don't know about everyone else, but to me, all of the X-Men films were brought into a "real world" where characters like Sabretooth, Mystique, and Nightcrawler featured eye and iris colors that are certainly not "real world". Couple that continuity with all of the fantastical elements that are already in THIS movie altogether and there's not a strong argument there.

My point is, if Gambit still had his red/black eyes as a consistent look, I don't think it would significantly impact this "real world" concept. I mean, it would further explain Gambit's hat as he'd probably use it to cover his eyes while going into public places, too!

Ya see, I DO complain about things some times! :p
