George Clooney's Next is The Monuments Men

I really would like to see Clooney try his hand at directing a mainstream franchise, comic or whatever.

This looks pretty good. The only Clooney directed movie I have seen is The Ides of March, which I enjoyed a lot. Plus, it is always great to have Bill Murray in something.

if B&R would never happened he would by now direct at least 2 big movies. IMO

George doesn't really seem interested in directing a mainstream franchise or comic book films. In interviews Clooney gives he usually says he only directs movies of which he is passionate about.

And the nominees for Best Picture are...
"Yawn"
"Pretentious Drivel"
"Pure Crap"
"Bore-Fest"
And the Oscar goes to Bore-Fest, starring Meryl Streep as some historical figure.

Pushed to 2014
George Clooney's World War II drama "The Monuments Men" will not arrive in theaters this year as planned because the film's visual effects could not be completed in time, the actor and director said. The tale of a ragtag band of art historians, museum curators and academics racing to rescue paintings and sculptures looted by the Nazis — slated to open Dec. 18 — now will be released by Sony Pictures early next year. "We just didn't have enough time," Clooney said Tuesday by phone from London, where he and producing partner Grant Heslov were to start a 16-hour scoring session with composer Alexandre Desplat and a 110-piece orchestra as part of their race to complete the film. "If any of the effects looked cheesy, the whole movie would look cheesy," said Clooney, who directed the film and stars in it. "We simply don't have enough people to work enough hours to finish it." By moving into 2014, "Monuments Men" will be ineligible for the upcoming Academy Awards. But Clooney said Oscar attention was never his goal for the film, which he and Heslov adapted from Robert Edsel's nonfiction book "The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves, and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History." "All we've ever said, from the very beginning, is that we wanted to make a commercial, non-cynical piece of entertainment," Clooney said. He said the intention was to make an ensemble film in the style of "The Guns of Navarone." In addition to Clooney, the film stars Matt Damon, Bill Murray, Jean Dujardin, John Goodman and Cate Blanchett. It was filmed in Germany and England earlier this year. After arriving in London a day ago, Clooney said he and Heslov realized they were facing an impossible pursuit. "I looked at Grant and said, 'We're dying,'" Clooney said.

Let's say if they move to Feb, I think it'll do okay. I think Feb is slowly changing into another March...though to me Jan is still a wasteland. It's not just the movies, but it's people just spent so much money on the holidays that it's just the slowest month of the year.

Yeah, Clooney said they looked at February and how well Shutter Island did in that month. Even though Sony hasn't made it official... February 21 is the likely date they'll go to (or Feb 7). Pompeii is the only other movie scheduled for that weekend, even though it's another Sony release.

It's a smart move on the studio and director's part.

Robocop has been pushed back becuase of this as well

I think it's hilarious that this is pushed out of Oscar contention completely.
I can vividly see Clooney behind closed doors screaming at a bunch of people.
"THIS IS MY ART FILM DAMN IT, IT'S A WAR FILM ABOUT ART, AND HOW WE HAVE TO SAVE ART, AND IT'S A MODERN DAY METAPHOR FOR SAVING THE ARTS, AND IT'S JUST WHAT THE ACADEMY EATS UP!!! RAARRRRR!!!"

Poor George. Maybe next year.

Damn, I was just about to bump this thread for no other reason than to troll it. Oh well, gotta be quicker on the draw I guess.

Maybe you guys just feel that way because you know Oct-Dec is the time of year the vast majority of awards worthy movies are released. That's just how it is. Doesn't mean they're all Oscar bait, that term gets unnecessarily thrown around a lot. If this movie came out in February the chance of it being completely forgotten by awards season is very likely.

Just like how the vast majority of blockbuster movies come out during the summer. Doesn't mean their quality is automatically compromised that's just how it's done for maximum targeted exposure.

:hehe:

Seeing more commercials for this. Looks really good

This is not getting good reviews at all.

Looks like The Lego Movie will tear it up this weekend, this movie among the casualty.

The Jimmy Kimmel & Matt Damon stuff as usual was gold

Are they still doing that stuff? Got a link? Kimmel vs Damon is pretty entertaining.

Look for Thursdays episode. The entire main cast was there including Matt Damon & Jimmy does something every time Matt Damon is in a new movie

This movie had such an interesting premise, excellent cast, and wonderful production design, but ended up being so boring. :/ Very let down by The Monuments Men.
