Hey folks,

I'd like to write a pilot for a Ghost Rider show that would run in syndication. It would be part of the MCU, tied in most closely to Daredevil and made in the same vein (dark and violent), and would feature Danny Ketch as the protagonist.

I have a background in script writing and Ghost Rider's always been my favourite superhero. I just don't know how to start with this one. Is there anyone around here with similar experience who'd be willing to collaborate?

GR isn't on Marvel's docket in the current phase. Maybe Phase 5

Doesn't mean it couldn't be pitched by someone.

I'd still like to give it a shot. At the very least, it would be a fun experiment.

So a Ghost Rider show is coming to Hulu.

Gabriel Luna is hinting that his Reyes version of Ghost Driver is returning.

I hope they include Johnny Blaze in the show at some point since his Ghost Rider already interacted with Robbie on Agent's Of Shield.

Josh Holloway is available and would make a solid version of older non-Ghost Rider Blaze. I liked older grizzled Johnny Blaze with his trenchcoat and hellfire shotgun.

From Variety:

Ingrid Escajeda will serve as showrunner and executive producer on “Ghost Rider,” with Paul Zbyszewski also executive producing.

I'm not really familiar with Ingrid Escajeda's work, her recent notable credits are writer and co-executive producer of Empire and APB. Empire is obviously a hit but it's not the kind of show I'm interested in and APB gets negative reviews. Hopefully she can deliver decent-quality work here.

Anyway I don't expect this to wow me or anything but I hope this is on Cloak and Dagger or Runaways' level.

Btw this thread should really be renamed if discussion of the new show is posted here.

It's Robbie Reyes; hard pass.

Sounds like it may ignore AOS, which is cool. I just hope they bring in Danny, with a less convoluted story.

Maybe they want people to enjoy it without feeling they need to watch Agents of Shield.

Variety has learned exclusively that Luna will star in the recently announced Hulu live-action series based on the comic book character. This will mark the second time that Luna has played Ghost Rider, previously appearing as the character in the ABC-Marvel series “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” However, sources stress that this will be a completely new iteration of the character in no way connected to the “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” storyline.

I'm all for it, Ghost Rider was hands down one of the best things to come out of AoS and I'm pretty excited. I know next to nothing about Helstorm, but it makes me wonder if Hulu will produce other darker characters like Blade.

Maybe they want people to enjoy it without feeling they need to watch Agents of Shield.

‘Ghost Rider’: Gabriel Luna to Star in Marvel-Hulu Series (EXCLUSIVE)
That's how it reads to me. If they wanted to reboot it they wouldn't have casted Gabriel Luna or chose any other Ghost Rider. I'm guessing they'll barely mention SHIELD, only reuse footage from his origin in flashbacks. You don't want to start a new show in a way that could leave new audiences confused, just start the show with him drifting from town to town like a Winchester.

Josh Holloway is available and would make a solid version of older non-Ghost Rider Blaze. I liked older grizzled Johnny Blaze with his trenchcoat and hellfire shotgun.
I would love that casting.

I think that this will likely have a recap of his origin and not tie too much into the events of AOS. It's still set in the MCU and AOS is canon thanks to influencing the events of Age of Ultron. I'm thinking that it'll likely still follow the loose ends of AOS regarding Johnny Blaze.

I'm hoping that Johnny is played by Charlie Hunnam and he's a retired superhero like Hank Pym except unlike Pym, Robbie gets him to go back to being a crimefighter and really teaches Robbie how to control the Rider.

The villain should be The Orb. The man responsible for Crash Simpson's accident which led Johnny to seek out the Darkhold in the first place.

I don't want to see Ally or Dan until Season 3.

In the comics they had a retired older family man Johnny Blaze getting pulled back into the supernatural superhero world via another Ghost Rider (His half brother Dan Ketch). Marvel could do they same thing but with Robbie instead Dan.

I like Robbie Reyes but much of the Ghost Rider comic lore is tied to the Kale family and friends so including at least one of them in a supporting role (Johnny, Danny or Jennifer).

I would split the mentor role between Johnny and Caretaker. Johnny giving Robbie guidance on being Ghost Rider and facing his old foes. Caretaker giving Robbie guidance on the whole supernatural world.

Villains I would like to see - Blackheart, Deathwatch, Blackout, Lilith, Skinner, Deacon, The Orb, Zarathos, Madcap, Creed, Meatmarket, Anton Hellgate, Pilgrim and Dark Legion.

Overall, I can't say I am really too super excited for some of these new shows but am curious...

It's interesting how Jeph Loeb kind of contextualized past output into groups such as Marvel Hero's, Street Hero's, and YA shows sort of still giving nods to Marvel Studio's movies time to time.

The Fox shows kind of fall outside of those 3 families as does what to do with these Fox properties in the future awaiting what Marvel wants to do with them but hoping to keep the door open with FX for projects that can't quite be categorized. Then, of course animated shows too...

Overall, I think it instead seems easier to group shows by network (exception being Runaways and Cloak/Dagger of course). I also think he gives good insight though on the Hulu shows catering around Marvel Terror as opposed to Horror and the character arcs we can expect to see with Ghost Rider and Helstrom (character a monster running around, thinks they're a monster, realizing a hero sort of thing).

The ABC plans with Ghost Rider he noticeably distances from though perhaps hoping to hit more of a Netflix level tonality with it. Not overly gory like the movie Saw which I agree with for Marvel properties but wish they'd rid the no smoking rule as I think it did feel odd for no background characters to be smoking at all in some of those Netflix shows. It just felt a bit off with everyone pulling a glass of whiskey out like they would a cigarette at times so maybe street based shows around nightclubs all the time is probably best avoided I think.
